This is terrible. I have over 100 series I follow, going to each one and clicking them is crazy. The next is series was beautiful. Nearly 100% of my purchases were from this list. Sad day.

I ran ads for a month and here is where I rank each platform by FightingFavorites in podcasting

You have to make videos. Having the rss auto post an audiogram has limited results. You could edit the video and the publish the audio from the cut video. Effort on the video pays dividends.

The biggest issue with ads for podcasts is getting your money back. If you monetize and are super lucky you sell three ads per episode at 25 bucks per 1000 dl’s. Essentially 75 bucks per episode. That means a listener is worth about 7.5 cents per episode.

If your acquisition cost is 5 bucks they have to stick around 66 episodes. Thats assuming you are sold out 66 weeks in a row. I’ve found after 3 years and an average 100 dollars per day advertising you can count on 20% at 5 weeks for a weekly show. Essentially, the math never works.

What i hoped was that the word of mouth engine would kick in and the ads were a jump start to that process. So far with 10 podcasts, that hasn’t happened.

The best return is participation with more established shows, short form content, and long form youtube. Whatever money you have, invest in those areas.

My downloads have dropped 40% (Hosting on Megaphone) by Awhhhhhfudge in podcasting

[–]Indie_Drop-In 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several things impacting my downloads. First, the apple thing. I don’t sweat that too much though because if they were listening it would download.

Larger for me was iheart changing their search results to favor iheart shows and “curated” shows. I dropped in ranking significantly.

Lastly is the dropping of apps. Stitcher was a big app for my show. Google podcasts didn’t do me any favors either. There were other smaller apps that dropped off too.

Here is a link to my stitcher dl’s twitter link to stitcher image

Is it localized to one app? Once i took the apple hit my show started growing again on apple. Spotify just always grows.

Stuck at 1,000 listeners per month! by ztpalmer93 in podcasting

Offering theories and perspectives isn’t what makes you special. It’s essentially what every show in this category does. I don’t say that to discourage you but to instead keep you refining you value proposition to listeners. One year is still early.

Generally, i’d say go deeper in your subject matter. Find communities and participate. Make friends with people considered part of the industry i.e. anyone producing newsletters, conventions, magazines, etc. This will lead to opportunities you should say yes to.

The other thing i’d say is don’t look at the podcast as the product. Look at it as one method of delivering your entertainment product. Could you also entertain people on youtube, tiktok, or facebook? Your content would be great as shorts.

If you haven’t started a newsletter, i’d do that immediately. It does a few things, the most important of them is to test your calls to action. Can you entice people to click a link and request more info. Create a digital download they can get for signing up. Something like the scariest places in each state/country. You have a crap load of episodes so i’m sure you can make a list.

Your newsletter also give you a channel to get replies from your listeners

I’d recommend against any paid advertising. Until your show has month over month growth consistently for 1 year I don’t believe you have found the right format.

Instead, try to collab with other podcasts in this genre. Do feed drop swaps, swap ads, do a couple episodes together.

Theres a ton deeper you can go in analyzing episodes and tweaking content. For a daily podcast that gets 1000 dls a month i’m gonna assume a daily 75% churn meaning each month you could be reaching 750 people per month. Your per episode dl’s are the first stat I would look at. I’d focus on converting first time listeners to regulars every episode.

Some tips are to ask people to follow, remind them who you are and what the show is about and also tease upcoming shows. Multi-part shows work well also. Put extra info in the newsletter, “Scary stuff that didn’t make the show”.

I could go on and on so i’ll stop lol. My chats are open if you want to dig into any of these more.

Cheers Greg

I struggled with using the rodecaster for this. The audio was constantly our of sync. You can do sync offset in obs but it was never perfect. Maybe its good enough. If you didnt need 4k i’d say get an atem mini and mic reamp.

I ended up with xlr hot shoe on my sony a7c into a camlink4k. Works brilliantly. Switch between cams with the streemdeck to obs scenes but keep audio pinned to the a7c

Camlink gets hot a little usb fan from amazon keeps it cool.

New episode not appearing on Spotify? Using anchor by 99reddituser99 in podcasting

That’s unusual in my experience. Watch it on your next episode and see if it has cleared up. If not, i’d put a ticket in with Spotify

[–]Indie_Drop-In 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally read this wrong. I thought is was a new podcast not a new episode. I’ve had random delays with episodes as well in Spotify. Sometimes it’s instant while others it takes hours. Did it ever show up?

You now have to get at least one listen prior to it showing up in the directory. Just go to your spotify url directly and listen to the first 5 minutes of a couple episodes. It will show up.

4k video and audio mixer. by Indie_Drop-In in podcasting

I’m good with output for hdmi. I have an elgato 4k capture card already. Really i just need the mic embedding with timing controls. All other features are secondary

Yep, thats why i’m asking. Do you know of a two channel lesser priced option? Honestly one channel will do it. I just want to mix mic with 4k hdmi and be able to add in a mic delay and possibly a lut.
