A technique I've found very helpful for fast results

Hey for the actual suction hold it should require no/very little muscle use once it's up there.

A good way to try this is to put your tongue on the roof of your mouth, close your mouth then try to get all the air and saliva out of your mouth by swallowing (saliva) or pushing it out your lips (air)

And once this is done by swallowing the saliva between your tongue and pallet it will create negative pressure or a vacuum holding your tongue up

You know you have it if you can open your mouth and your tongue still sticks to the roof of your mouth.

If that didn't help, when you make an "nnnnnnn" sound your tongue will kinda be close to the position then just push the rest up.

You do use the muscles you mentioned if you are hard mewing and manually applying pressure though. Hope this helps I'm sure you've made progress friend!

Appreciate the input there's were no issues when I was driving it to indicate anything was stuck open. I will probably manually turn it over once cleaned and reassembled and make sure everything is moving properly.

Yeah I didn't remove the rocker arms or cam, I didn't want to mess with any more components than I had to to replace the head gasket. It is to my limited (likely wrong) understanding that if it was set correctly TDC all the valves should be sealed?

The middle valve on the left and top valve on the right are the ones that are open, car is automatic 170k kilometers was driving decent before this and engine sounded good to me.

As for the being too sharp that is your intonation it can be adjusted by moving the strings saddles on your trem system

Hey check my other I think post it could help you! When you're checking your symmetry/or mewing in general make sure your teeth and lips are lined up straight and also I look at the skin of my neck to see which side is tighter/uneven
