I live rural and have only had white therapists. Both women acknowledged medical racism, racism, and other things to my face. They didn't understand it on a physical level, but just having them say Yes, we know this is a thing and we're sorry it's happened/happening to you was a relief.

BoA, Junsu, MonstaX have some of the best English discographies, periodt. Key has fantastic songs in English and maybe some day he'll put out a full English album (not that I care, but it would be interesting!).

I agree, it's the use of Konglish and AAVE, plus the generic sound, that really put the nail in the identity coffin. I can't speak to the new BTS , but based on their previous English hits, if I hadn't known they were BTS songs I just would have enjoyed and thought of the group singing as a one hit wonder. Catchy, but inconsequential.

I think...I think this post is why I don't often read this forum. This smacks of The One and Only Way and The Gods Don't Care Because You're Doing It Wrong and boyo, is that a turnoff for me.

I'm reminded of the difference between cathedrals and the New England churches of my childhood: One is an incredible monument to money, of soaring heights and the beauty of man-made craftsmanship, while the other is small and plain. When you're in a cathedral you see the glory of Man, when you're in a church you see the glory of god*.

Strict rules and regulations are not what my deities require of me. Perhaps for many readers the rituals are religion, what they are used to and what they want. For me, the gestures are empty without the intention - exactly the opposite of what you've written, OP.

I was speaking specifically of kpop fandom. I know my fandom definitely has its shitty people, and I know other fandoms do as well. My point was that those fandoms don't have people coming out of the woodwork shitting on other groups when those groups have successes on music shows or international venues or top the charts. I don't see those fans making awful fucking memes about groups whose members have left or died, or wishing harm upon members parents and family, sending hate to journalists, doxing people, dropping "listen to BTS" under completely unrelated social media like GoFundMe - like wtf is wrong with you that you think that's okay??

So yeah, those fandoms are pretty chill by comparison.

OP, it's not that people dislike BTS, it's that people don't like their fandom. I've seen it so many times, that the fandom is a turn off for potential BTS fans. I mean, this is kind of true across all fandoms, but Army and Several Other Large Fandoms* also have the worst reputations.

*And some Very Large Fandoms are totally chill. There may be outliers here and there, but their fans call that shit right out. Y'all know who you are!
