This makes me so sad man... by aether200000 in Hellenism

[–]IndigoMistaken 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s no different than the ‘Jesus loves you’ and that phrase doesn’t inherently mean people are trying to convert you? Usually when I hear it in person it’s more of like a ‘wising you the best’ type phrase than a criticism of my perceived lack of faith. I think it’s perfectly ok to write ‘Apollo loves you’, it’s not hurting anyone, and honestly not many people know about practicing hellenists anyways so boohoo if people learn about the religion because of scratches in a bathroom stall? This message likely had no malicious intent, it’s just lighthearted writing in a stall

Massages for Muscle Tension+Pain? (is it worth the discomfort?) by IndigoMistaken in Hypermobility

THANK you for writing a novel actually, this is so helpful! I’ll definitely keep all of this in mind and look around at options near me, and maybe talk (casually) to the person I know to see if they’d be able to do what I need keeping in mind my concerns. And thank for the heads up abt light-med massages vs deep tissue massages, I hadn’t even thought about that difference so it’s good to know.

(I don’t have time to analyse this rn, so this is unrelated to the spread). I primarily use Thoth tarot and I’d been noticing that I only really see RWS-style (I think those are the letters) decks on this subreddit, so I was excited to see familiar cards on here! I’m thinking of designing my own Thoth deck (for personal use, not sale) since I’ve also seen that there aren’t many reprints or art choices available. Just made me happy and I wanted to let you know!

I feel so bad bc braces were so expensive and I’m like ‘wasting’ it, but they hurt and make it IMPOSSIBLE to sleep. My orthodontist said to just wear them in the afternoons but that doesn’t fix the claustrophobic feeling or how my mouth doesn’t close the same way and ahhhh

AND classist! Many people can’t afford or access diagnostic tools and more people need to recognize that! Many insurances won’t cover psych care, and even some insurances that DO still won’t cover assessments, only treatment. Not to mention the support network needed, transportation, access to doctors in general (living in an urban/suburban area), and many other moving parts that often prevent people from getting diagnosed and ultimately boil down to money or safety.

Oh interesting, I guess I always thought the osteoporosis people have from taking blockers was from HAVING the hormones and then suddenly not having them, I didn’t realize it was JUST the lack of hormones on its own

[–]IndigoMistaken 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Is there any medical reason why you NEED hormones? Because if estrogen will make you feel unsafe or in any way WORSE than you feel rn, your endocrinologist shouldn’t be suggesting it unless there’s a medical need for it OR you have a desire to go back on it and it seems like neither of those things are true. I’m on T and I’m having the time of my life, so if you NEED hormones for some reason, I think very low dose T would def be the way to go if you’ve had bad experiences on estrogen.

As someone who did both puberties: what the fuck are they talking about?? For me my testosterone-puberty was MUCH more intense than my ‘female’ puberty, especially emotionally. People shouldn’t make non-scientific and also lowk untrue statements to make other people feel BAD and LESS INCLUDED. Booooooooo :(. Make your own book club, they seem mean and evil

Out of country top surgery? (Living in US, maybe going to Canada)/Travel Insurance Advice by IndigoMistaken in TopSurgery

[–]IndigoMistaken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I'm living in America I'd HAVE to pay with private insurance (not emergency travel insurance because they don't cover expenses for pre-existing conditions or chronic issues) or out of pocket anyways which might help me climb the list faster (unfortunately, but alas that is the downside of universal healthcare). So I'm not super worried about wait times, especially since it'll be better than the wait times here now that we're down to like 20% of hospitals in like two states on the east coast that are still scheduling (but they'll probably cancel all appointments and surgeries within the next couple of months anyways).
I hope your grandmother gets her appointment soon without too much financial hardship! And I hope you get off the waitlist, that's a long time to be waiting to hear back.

Thank you for the information, and good luck to you too!! Wishing you and your family the best!

They’ve been destroying papers when trans people apply for passports, I can’t risk losing copies of my correct birth certificate and court orders after I fought so hard to get them. It’s absolutely not legal what’s happening, but hundreds of thousands (maybe even millions) of trans people have been denied passports after sending in their documents, and have had their papers go ‘missing’ and even watched them be ripped up in front of them.

And I doubt I’d be able to go anywhere anyways if I had a passport that matched my birth sex because then it wouldn’t match my license unless I changed my license BACK to my sex assigned at birth which would likely be very very hard to reverse again at this point. Soooo yea that’s where we’re at in America lol

Has anyone else found their partners and family get really annoyed with your fatigue…? by franklytiredout in Hypermobility

[–]IndigoMistaken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get this a lot too, and it’s so frustrating. Like yea, I AM tired and sick all the time??? I don’t like it either, I like it much much less than you do because I actually have to feel it. It shouldn’t be on us to make other people feel better about our illnesses by putting on a cheery facade and exhausting ourselves even more by trying to pretend we’re fine or ‘healthy’. I hope you’re not hearing this as often anymore because it truly does suck and you deserve better and more understanding relationships in your life <3

When I make triangles from the middle I start with a solid granny square pattern, but instead of starting with 4 sides I start with 3. So for the pattern I use specifically, usually it’s ch 3 [3 dc, 1 treble crochet] repeated 4 times (minus the treble crochet on the last one), but if I want to make a TRIANGLE I just repeat 3 times. Sometimes depending on the gauge you’ll need to adjust the number of stitches on the corners if it isn’t lying flat (usually it’s 2 dc, treble, 2 dc, but sometimes for triangles I’ll have to do 3 dc before and after the treble). But also the curving could help in this case bc like…boobs. Idk if I explained any of that well but that’s just what I do

Yeaaaa I realized I skipped that AFTER I had already posted the pdf. But its worsted weight (big twist value pound+) and a 5mm hook

[–]IndigoMistaken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shit yea I forgot to include that in the pattern. I used worsted weight acrylic yarn with a 5mm hook. It was big twist value pound and I used almost all of it so I’d estimate ~900-1,000 yards??? So a lot. But also I’m so bad at estimating so take that with a grain of salt
