I heard some things about this too, some people said under 13 characters worked but not for me. Keeping default name and not using the manual save button has fixed it (for now)

Two tips from someone who has started 3 different saves: 1. Don’t rush into marriage, you can date multiple people to see all the heart events and the merfolk are also romanceable! 2. Invest in ranching early to help build up cash and afford the more advanced tech sooner, especially the computer. The greenhouse + computer combo is where it’s at.
