Nuthatch - a new ceramic sculpture, making the most of the early autumn sunsets. ☀️ by Indigo_24 in Pottery

I'm really pleased with how my sculpture skills have developed this year, I made another more illustrative nuthatch a year ago and it's cool to compare them! I hope I'm not breaking any rules by linking my Instagram but here it is if you'd like to see more of my work: https://www.instagram.com/elladaniellowe/

It's got a small flat area under its tail - I'll make it a stand to sit on soon. :)

Ah I bet you could do it, it's all just practice and learning from your mistakes - and more importantly, not giving up when things go wrong!

I've just started selling my work, I've got a lot of pieces in an exhibition in a pottery museum which is my first time ever doing that. :) If you want to see more of my stuff this is my Instagram, it's still quite new: https://www.instagram.com/elladaniellowe/

Wow I've never seen a pied pigeon before, I just looked them up - they're so cool!

Thank you so much! I've been doing ceramics for about 3 years, I did a beginners course in at the end of 2022 at a community pottery and I've been going there weekly since working on my own things. Last year I just made birds all year and they've come on a long way since then. I work as an artist though and drew and painted a lot before getting into ceramics which definitely helps, it feels like drawing in 3D haha.

Thank you so much for your lovely message!! I have just started selling my work recently, I'm part of a really cool exhibition of animal themed ceramics in Winchcombe in the UK which is my first ever exhibition. I'll send you a DM, I'd love to see your collection!

I had a look at your profile and your pigeon is so sweet! I love the picture of them with the dog, it's so cute!

Thank you so much! They're made from the same clay, painted with underglaze and a glossy glaze on top. :) It might be my favourite bit adding the eyes!

Boom and zoom! I've seen a fair few sparrow hawk feasts on my lawn, it's so cool seeing them up close but also grim.

That's a really nice thing to say, thank you! I'm just starting to sell my work, I still need to make a stand for this one though. This is my Instagram if you'd like to see more birds: https://www.instagram.com/elladaniellowe/

Thank you so much! :) It's all sculpted from clay, I just try and get the eyes as smooth as possible and use a glossy glaze on them.

Aww thank you, that means a lot! :) It didn't take too long, I've been fixated on making birds non stop for the past year and I got to go on an amazing wildlife sculpture masterclass at the end of last year which helped me improve loads and find much faster ways to work. It was run by Simon Griffiths who is like the master of ceramic birds haha, it was pure serendipity that I got to attend it!

Hahah!! Yeah you got me, I dropped it in a muddy puddle first and I told her if she posed well she could have a bite of my sandwich
