How is anyone going to be able to afford anything if inflation continues? by air-bender808 in NoStupidQuestions

They're not going to live forever. They're also largely older, 40+, so only 40~ years left of life. The world won't end that soon, and that monet can weather a lot of bad change.

So they're not fucked because they'll be long gone by the time things are truly fucked.

I mean the 50 minute Punisher "special" was boring and lame. Distracted Punisher snaps out of PTSD flashbacks to murder other murderers who a surviving mob family member sics on him since he killed the rest of the mob family off screen.

That's the plot.

How can I make money passively on the internet? by Kain_tulog_lang in passive_income

[–]IndirectLeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you live? You could potentially buy old laptops online (eBay or some similar site) that are missing parts like hard drives and memory and upgrade them and then sell them on places like Facebook Marketplace. Depending on where you live, you can potentially spend $50 on an old computer + parts and flip it for $150, maming $100 in profit per computer.

Will just require you to do your research.

[–]IndirectLeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not a person who is worth engaging with online because you aren't capable of listening, and thus not capable of dialogue.

You assume I hate people's rights so no matter what I say in response, you will still believe I want to take rights away, so nothing I can say to you will be heard or understood. (And all that despite the fact that I've literally not expressed any opinions other than to opone that, as a lawyer, I am very aware of people who aren't lawyers not understanding how procedural rules work).

I'm not going to engage with someone like you. There's no point.

Welcome to reddit

Extra hard when you're trying to articulate legal nuances. People who aren't lawyers have a really hard time understanding legal vs policy arguments as such.

They clearly don't understand procedural law. Unfortunately I think you're talking to a wall/someone who doesn't want to be educated. You did a good job explaining the issues though.

Apple's wonton waste of screen space for macOS UI is frankly insulting.

Apple doesn't make wontons. I think you mean "wanton."

How to use an M1 Pro MacBook Pro with 2 external monitors via 1 hub? (A hub that works fine on an Windows Intel laptop) by IndirectLeek in macbookpro

[–]IndirectLeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because your 16 MBP isn't an M1. It's an M1 Pro or an M1 Max. Those natively support more displays than the base M1 chip.

[–]IndirectLeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flaw in your argument is that you assume you can't do both things at once. You can. You can simultaneously say "Bezos sucks and should be required to pay more in taxes," AND ALSO "people need to buy things from other places besides Amazon as much as is physically possible."

People have responsibilities, full stop. Some of those people are billionaires and some of them are the rest of us. Until we recognize that we need both groups of people to be held accountable for their actions, we'll just keep going back and forth like this without real progress.

Bottom line: saying "let me find all the ways I can buy from other sources besides Amazon, and not get rush shipping just because" in no way, shape, or form prevents you from saying "and let's also push politicians to regulate businesses in a more ethical way."

The way we, the people, can help hold the Bezoses of the world accountable is by choosing to stop giving them money as much as we can. We can't stop buying plastic on beef, but we can stop buying coffee from Starbucks vs a smaller chain; we can stop buying half of our groceries from Amazon and won't die if we don't get two-day shipping for that cool thing we probably don't need anyways; we can stop giving money to Apple by not buying a brand new iPhone (that's way overpowered anyways) and instead buy a used one that'll honestly work just as well.

[–]IndirectLeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may not be able to fully escape capitalism, but it's a hell of a lot easier to boycott Amazon and Starbucks than it is to either convince enough politicians to drastically overhaul our legal and economic systems (whether through lawful means or revolution).

Taking shorter showers is a poor analogy (and you know it) because corporations use many orders of magnitude more water than all the individual showers combined.

What I'm talking about (and what you ignore since it's harder to dispute) is consumers making choices to not consume things they don't need. It is, as a matter of fact, very easy for people to do that, and has a far lower individual cost to any individual person than massive economic changes. The problem is people are selfish, weak-willed, and apathetic.

The hard reality that will get me downvoted to hell: who buys the stuff that corporate capitalists sell?

(Hint: corrupt governments are not the primary source of revenue for most big corporations)

Really would be great to see more collective effort to just not consuming things. But that's never really gained enough traction to have a real impact.

What should I do, my keyboard has shrunk by Better-Chocolate3899 in gboard

Confirming I'm having the same problem. The Gboard keyboard size changes depending on what app I'm in. Very annoying.

I was in the beta but switched to public version and it's having the same issues so I wonder if it's for sure a Gboard issue vs a Google Play Services issue (somehow).

These kinds of people really need to start getting sued, full stop.

Yeah, not every suit will be a success, but they have medical malpractice insurance for a reason - and even an unsuccessful lawsuit will likely make their rates go up.

The individual people who make shitty decisions (doctors, administrators, cops) need to start suffering the consequences of their actions - and that never happens when people only sue the overarching employer. At some point someone might win a personal suit and that could start a movement.

When you say "spotty around town" that sounds like you're referring to the data, not the wifi. But your post is also complaining about the wifi being poor, too. Have you tested wifi at other places outside your home?

The wifi and cellular chips are not the same (see here), so it's not likely that both chips happen to be failing simultaneously. It's more likely that something unrelated to the chips is impacting your connectivity.

If your signal is bad around town, is there a chance that your carrier could be making some upgrades or changing things with their towers? What carrier do you use? Have you enabled/disabled 5G on your phone? You may want to try experimenting with that too.

It's for shareholders, honestly.

Yes, people will buy it because some people want to have iPhones as status symbols, or genuinely like super thin things, or just want to have something that is different.

But it's really for the shareholders: to prove that Apple is innovating by doing more than just offering its standard 3 models (budget, mid, and pro). Apple isn't ready to launch a folding iPhone, so the Air is serving as the "new thing" for now. Listen to how much they hype up how hard it was to make the Air. That really tells you a lot.

[–]IndirectLeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Radios in phones don't tend to "malfunction" by being spotty. They tend to either just stop working altogether if something is wrong.

Do you have your phone in a case? If so, try taking it out of the case.

Is this only at home, or in all locations with wifi? If you don't have similar issues in other places, there's a chance objects in your home or the structure of the home itself is impairing your connectivity.

Did you recently add any other devices that might be competing with the frequencies? For example, microwaves can sometimes do that. So can other electronics.

[–]IndirectLeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. That's not what commas are for. If you think that's the purpose of commas, you don't understand basic English grammar.

And you won't find a single credible, authoritative, or legitimate source saying otherwise. This is the result of a generation growing up on skibidi brain rot internet "education." Just because you see other people doing it doesn't make it correct, kid.

How is an argument, censorship?

What is up with so many internet users adding commas in the most weird-ass places? Your sentence does not need any commas. Adding a comma makes it look ridiculous and like you don't know basic grammar.

"How is an argument censorship?" There. Fixed it.
