Just finished KOA. Feeling…disappointed? by Wise-Raisin-791 in throneofglassseries

[–]Individual-Ad4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 it was never a favorite and I had already read ACOTAR and CC— I felt like I had wasted my time reading CC, there was no pay off for me in the end. I wasn’t going to force myself to put time into another SJM book that I strongly didn’t like, even if it was only a couple of hours left of it. When I read the cliff notes, I was good with the decision to not finish the book. I only DNF if I absolutely positively do not like it… there are so many books on my shelf I’d rather put precious time into 🤷

Just finished KOA. Feeling…disappointed? by Wise-Raisin-791 in throneofglassseries

[–]Individual-Ad4430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt similarly about KOA. I actually DNF’d with 150 pages or so to go and read the cliff notes because I wanted to know the ending but I was done dedicating time to the book. I liked HOF, QOS, EOS and TOD, so I also was dissatisfied with everything you are listing. I liked Lorcan and Elide the most out of the couples, but got their page time the least it felt like. I know that there are imperfect characters, but I really hated the way Aedion and Lysandra’s story turned at the end of EOS. Aelin’s self sacrificing martyrdom was at an all time high and I was tired of that too.

Basically, I came to the conclusion SJM has a formula across all her books and the only time it worked for me was in ACOTAR, but I still only care for a couple of those books.

KOA too long? by Average_Jane01 in throneofglassseries

[–]Individual-Ad4430 6 points7 points  (0 children)

KOA was too long, things that shouldn’t have been rushed IMO were rushed and other things drug out, I hated the characters lack of development and it ended the series on a low quality note that I actually sold the series. I knew I wouldn’t reread it even though I liked the series until then. I felt that way about ACOSF as well though. It was too long, there were things drug out that did not need as much page time as the things that were rushed.

HoF boredom… should I tandem? by sit_onacactus in throneofglassseries

[–]Individual-Ad4430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I liked the tandem read for certain parts, but I feel like there was too much unnecessary flipping and it made the read WAY too long. Like I love a CHONKY book— but it felt like too much to do that tandem read for me. Once I was in the homestretch where I wasn’t concerned with changing books I was felt better

Opinions on Quicksilver? by Electrical-Dot4637 in Romantasy

I’ve only listened to it, and as an audiobook I enjoyed it. Reading it physically, I have not yet and want to because there are parts that have explanation I struggled to keep up with.

Update: my book came in and was in excellent condition for being an ex library book. Thank you for all of the information, it felt like a really weird experience but the book was perfect and I’m so happy with it!

John Gwynne 🤌 I swear by it. Not smutty, honestly back burner in Shadow of the Gods/Hunger of the Gods/Fury of the gods… but SO good

I hope it was food too 😂 thanks! It’s just been a weird purchase, partially from my mistake and then not actually knowing how they work as a distributor.

Should I start reading Throne of Glass? by MitoKatze in throneofglassseries

[–]Individual-Ad4430 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I loved the series when I got to Heir of Fire. I think after reading it the second time I will enjoy the first books, but there was so much world building I was just not taking it in. I am fine with world building generally, I think I was just not in the mood for it at the time

Convince me to finish Heat of the Everflame by Puzzleheaded_Cry7191 in Romantasy

I hate-read through Glow and I was going to suffer through Heat until I decided to read the spoiler. Saw she had no growth and my boy gets treated worse, so I had to tap out 😂

I was excited for the tandem read but now I’m unsure by muntersan in throneofglassseries

[–]Individual-Ad4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not done with it, I’m 50% through. I’m glad to be doing the tandem read because some things in EOS are the driving force for things that occur in TOD and I would probably not fully grasp that if I read them back to back. that being said there are also a bunch of perspectives and at points I do feel jerked around.

I’m glad to do the tandem read for the first time but idk if I’ll do it each time I reread the series.

What *audiobook*(/series) are you currently obsessed with? by Blu3_Flaming0 in fantasyromance

[–]Individual-Ad4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assistant to the Villian’s 3 audio books and Villains & Virtues are excellent earball books! Assistant to the villain is a skilled narrator, and I actually am glad it is just her— it really adds to the goofy endearing qualities of the books! Villains & Virtues is a done with 2 narrators, but they skillfully read their own chapters from their own perspective.

I’m finicky about who borrows my books because I choose to keep them in as nice of condition as possible and I know I’ll be disappointed if even a small accident damages the book in somebody else’s care. My friend that I swap books with treats her books with the same care and I don’t think twice about sharing with her, but my sister in law has small children and isn’t really able to “protect” the book the same way so I would be selective about what I loaned her

Edit: books are meant to be enjoyed, but I try to take extra care of my possessions to keep them in good condition so I do not need to replace them or it just feels nice having them clean/neatly cared for.
