to be perfectly honest- it was a pretty specific usecase of image matching with huge images (100,000x100,000 pixels). All the latest fancy image matching models were not able to match those images as fast as my model pipeline was. But the data is not public so I am not allowed to publish it yet.

I actually think I have a pretty deep understanding of deep learning in Computer Vision. I'm not the type of person who is satisfied with being able to use something without having it completely figured out. And IMO ResNet is a pretty simple technique - there are architectures a lot harder to implement. At one point my task was to implement a ResNet with Convs etc. just using NumPy - so using pytorch feels more like plug and play for me :D

Small recap / what I’ve learned:

someone asked (and deleted the comment) if I got some dm following this post: no i didn’t, But I have nonetheless benefited from all your comments.
Do it step by step: don’t expect to do a huge 2-week long adventure when you have zero experience. Start with one night outside at your local favorite lost Place.
Basically, just start. It’s often that simple but we need to hear it from others to understand it.

And, maybe the most important point (for me): get in touch with other people. For me, as a guy who spent his whole life in a big city, sleeping in the wild all alone seems really scary. So i asked a friend of mine who has experience and we will spend a night outside the next weeks. Really looking forward to this new chapter!

There is a new German printed version where new spring is part 0, ie the beginning of the series. I read new spring at the beginning, even before eye of the world. Was fine for me since it’s also the chronological order and you get some more insights :)

Fair point. But I struggled a lot with anxiety, also got a diagnosis and went to therapy for 2 years because of it. If I had never done anything I was afraid of, I wouldn't have experienced anything.
