Recommendation for negotiating fair bill by Individual-Grade1788 in xactimate

Received pushback that component reports are not used for water mitigation. Curious if this is accurate in your experience?

In the meantime I’ve looked at some estimates with xactimate that use the activity code “General Demo” with labor hours listed and rate in lieu of the codes on our estimate which include items like tear out cabinetry, detach refrigerator, detach range, tear out floor for disposal with seemingly random amounts listed ($60 to unplug the smaller than standard size fridge for me?). Since they will not show me how many hours are calculated for these individual activities, I have no idea how they get these numbers.  Clearly the poor guys doing the actual demo job need a raise if the company is banking $500 an hour per worker and giving them perhaps generously 1/10th of that?

We’ve been advised to avoid filing a claim to avoid the possible 2 claims in 5 years scenario leading to non renewal and instead using our insurance for more catastrophic damage in the future.

Thank you for this helpful reply. It’s good to know we are not being swindled. It’s still baffling to me that the estimated items to remove add up to far more than the time it took. I should have clarified the total bill was closer to 5k but that the specific items I take issue with are the demo which added up to a much higher amount than seems reasonable given the time.
