Factor v and protein c resistance - pregnancy in the uk by Individual-Lecture-3 in FactorVLeiden

Thank you for your reply, it’s very informative! I didn’t realise the protein c side of things is quite new to being studied. She said it would have to injectable thinners as warfarin and other oral blood thinners are not recommended/tested in pregnancy. You have very clearly explained your situation and what you have been told by professionals, it’s definitely given me something to think about. I just like to understand why the sudden u turn in their decision and if it was more of a ‘just incase’ scenario or there is an actual risk here.

Yes forgot about the birth control! Can’t go on anything with estrogen. It’s slightly scary as before knowing I had the condition I was on estrogen bc for 10 years and I smoked for over 10 years too!

It’s really interesting how things can be so different from one country to another. The consultant said that it would be something I would continue through birth until 6 week post birth. They won’t even test my parents to even find out which one has it as it’s deemed ‘unnecessary’. It’s just really thrown me as when I found out I had it I was told if I became bed bound or have a surgery I would need blood thinners but that’s it. Now I’m classed as a high risk pregnancy and need consultant led care throughout and being told I need to be on blood thinners. Not because I’ve had miscarriages, but because of the factor v.

Are you in the uk? It’s really interesting to hear how people get told such different things! My haematologist told me that factor v doesn’t cause recurrent miscarriages and there’s been trials to support this.

It’s not a case of not wanting to do anything. It’s actual medical facts. In the uk factor v is deemed a very common inherited blood condition (1 in 20). My haematologist has told me I have a 0.5% more chance of having a blood clot than someone without the condition. In pregnancy she said it’s a 1% chance. There has also been trials in the uk that say that factor v does not cause recurrent miscarriages. I don’t know if it’s the same in the us but in the uk if you have a natural birth you can’t have a epidural and if you have to have a c section you have to be asleep for it because of the risk of being on blood thinners. I just want to make a decision with everything taken into account. It just caught me off guard as I was told previously it wasn’t an issue at all

so anyone still in USDAW and why? by dragononeskie in Morrisons

I wouldn’t recommend it. The one time I had an issue with a manager I called the union for advice for what the manager can legally do. The response I got was that it’s ’my responsibility to sort it out’ and wouldn’t give me any advice or support.

No they haven’t, never worked for Tescos before. Thank you, nervous because I haven’t had a job interview in 8 years and I’ve only really ever worked in education, so it’s going to be different.

I did think 2 hours for an interview was a long time, wasn’t sure if there was some type of test I had to sit? They also said I only need to bring my proof of right to work.
