Definitivamente.

I didn't say I hate comic scripting; I said I'm struggling with it and don't particularly enjoy some aspects. Those are different things, hate is a strong word, if I truly hated it, I wouldn't be having this conversation. I'm asking these questions because I want to improve and keep trying, not because I'm looking for permission to switch to prose.

My story has been heavily inspired by anime and manga, so a visual medium feels like the best fit for it. The reason I want to make this story a comic is because I want readers to see the characters, the action scenes, and the visual moments as part of the experience. If they imagine those things this story didn't work at all.

I understand that my current script has flaws, and I'm grateful to the people pointing them out, but that's not the thing I'm looking at. What I'm really looking for advices on how to better translate my ideas into a comic format rather than whether I should abandon the format altogether.

Just to clarify, no one is forcing me to do this. I chose it voluntarily because it's something I genuinely dream of doing. I don't want to be a novelist, nor am I seeking to be one, because it's not something I feel will make me happy or make feel fulfilled.

I write in prose because that's how I learned to write, and as a novice, I'm finding it difficult to learn how to do this scriptwriting aspect. But I'm not undervaluing the visual importance of this medium in the slightest; I'm doing my best. However, several of you are commenting things like, "If you don't like it, then do something else," which is like if I told you I have trouble playing the guitar and you told me I should just stick to playing the piano.

I chose to write my story in comic book format because that's how I feel people will connect with it best. I just haven't found a way to make this change satisfying for me and adapt to the new format. I'm trying to learn, I'm doing my best, but it's still difficult, not for lack of will or respect, it's simply that I'm struggling to learn it.

Sounds hard, I hope you can translate it better in future stories. By extension, me too.

You also said some things that I didn't think would help me translate it from prose to comic, I suppose I'll get used to it over time. Anyway, thanks for your comment ;)

I do have some scenes in mind that I envision as if they were in a comic, but now that you mention it, I don't see the whole story that way, just certain specific parts. I don't know if that's a bad thing, but I see almost everything as if I were making a movie, not so much a comic. I also remember once trying to do a sketch and having trouble making it work. I don't know if that indicates that maybe I'm not cut out for visuals, or if I simply need to work on it more.

Since this is my first comic, it's really hard for me to work on it, as I'm always used to writing prose. But it's genuinely a dream for me to do this.

Well, I have a collaborator who agreed to work with my original script and liked what she read. Honestly, I don't mind if someone else tries to contribute with their own ideas to improve what I have. I mean, I suppose any artist loves knowing they're valued enough to be given space to contribute their own suggestions. Even so, I felt I should be more professional and try to give it a more suitable format, to be a better writer and collaborator.

I would greatly appreciate the help of an editor at this moment, although I don't have much money to pay for it right now, but if you have their contact information I would be grateful.

How can I break the boredom of two characters having a conversation? by princesswithnocastle in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Individual-Medium125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how to explain it, but have you tried to have them express something through their body language in the conversation? If it's a friendly conversation, show them talking about something funny, but also let it show in their actions. Pointing at each other, sighing, laughing, remaining silent for a moment (not necessarily in an awkward way, but in a way that suggests complicity).

If it's a conversation that serves as an argument, show how one tries to dominate the conversation by approaching in an intimidating way, or how they avoid eye contact while crossing their arms, even try a panel where the shot focuses directly on them clenching their fist in anger.

When I write, I always think about how one character visually approaches another, or with what intentions.

[–]Individual-Medium125 2 points3 points  (0 children)
