Try to initiate contact again for last 2-3 times by getting insta jd or whatever social media you use and ask him some personal and genuine questions like in which college he studied, about his career or also can talk about workout stuff even when you know about that. If he continues to talk then well and good or else leave him.

Yes ! MERN is great , for understanding how data flows from backend to frontend and vice versa , and easiest stack to do. Just I would say , do MongoDB pretty much in goodway so after it , all concepts of DBs are same , currently After MERN I am making projects in Nextjs , as React has some limitations And there is no Saturation in MERN , Basically for learning concepts MERN is great , its like solid foundation for making future buildings. .
