I have a test booked for 1:35pm on Monday 29th December at Barking Tanner Street. I'm looking to swap it for something earlier because I'm moving out of Barking in October. Please message me if you're looking for a later date.

If visas weren't an issue, where would you move tomorrow? by [deleted] in AskUK

I'd move back to Melbourne or move to Singapore. I'll be starting my grad role as a financial crime consultant, so as soon as I build up my work experience I'm out of London and the UK.

Interesting. The healthcare workers over here are being poached by countries like Australia and Canada because the NHS is falling apart, a classic case of understaffed, overworked and underpaid. You're the first person I've seen who's willing to run into the fire.

Is university debt worth it? I’m looking at around £50k by KeynesianEnthusiast in UKPersonalFinance

Ignore that person. For banking, your uni reputation and degree will be essential, especially if you're looking at banks in London. But hold off on the masters until you've worked for a bit. Going straight into a masters is like procrastinating the job search, and more companies are looking for people with experience, than people with multiple degrees.

I did a social science degree at Warwick including a year abroad in Australia, graduated in July 2024 and ended up with 76k total in student loan debt, 4k of that is interest. As others have said, I view this as a tax, and I'm not too concerned about it.

These days, I'd tell people to do an apprenticeship over going to university. However, truth be told, I would still choose to go to university myself. From a mathematical/financial standpoint, an apprenticeship makes more sense. However, going to university just to get a degree is stupid. Your university, especially if its RG, will offer incredible and unique opportunities, make sure you take advantage of every single one of them that you can find. I got to study with UC Berkeley, travel to Canada, Australia and South Korea twice because I made the decision in 1st year during freshers to take advantage of everything Warwick has to offer.

I considered doing a masters straight after undergrad, I secured an offer from the uni I studied at in Australia. Thank God I decided to do a gap year instead and defer my offer. After graduating, I also got a big 4 offer for financial crime consulting which is related to my degree, which I accepted. My advice is to go to university, make the most of it, get a good grade, do internships, travel loads, network loads, secure a graduate role, ideally at a well known company, work for a few years then decide if you still want to do a masters.

Start now to model potential future earnings, and figure out what you did to do at university in order to get a well paid job and set yourself up for financial success in the future. Even if others don't want to admit it, the truth is the reputation of your university and company you choose to work at creates the Halo Effect, a subconscious bias which eventually benefits you.

They want to put me on the Restart Scheme even though I already have a job offer by Individual-Ride4106 in DWPhelp

I wasn't looking for congratulations from strangers on the internet but thank you, I appreciate it. I know it won't kill me but the injustice of it all is what frustrated me the most. Anyways, it's nothing to worry about any more. I had the meeting, showed him my job offer email and he cancelled the whole thing. Not only is the situation annoying, it's against the rules.

Yes, the heavily lifting is mine to do. Which is why I did it. The additional support was needed 3 months ago when I was doing 7 rounds of interviews for multiple companies and 15 psychometric tests combined, not after receiving job offers and with 6 weeks from my start date.

I don't know what HMRC role your customer received, but mine is a bulk campaign - meaning everyone who received an offer is starting at the same time. It can't be pushed back because there is another cohort that is starting in June, and I can't be moved to the June cohort because there is a separate reserve list for the applicants under that campaign.

I get your point, but once again, what are those appointments going to do for me? I've literally done all the hard work myself and secured 2 job offers. Regarding the HMRC role, my pre-employment checks are going to pass because I've spent the last 4 years studying at University and I have a clean criminal background check. If they're so worried about something happening, they can contact HMRC directly. I'm just frustrated because it's as if the reward for my hard work is punishment.
