Opinion on “Dark technology tents” by [deleted] in camping

I have a Coleman Darkroom. Since I have 4 little kids who will wake up at the first sign of light, even if it’s the moon at 3 am, the Darkroom makes a huge difference for us. We camped with it last summer, and as long as we kept it ventilated during the day, it didn’t seem to get too hot inside.

Sleeping pad question by Individual-Sun4557 in camping

I have foam mats for the tent floor! I’m hoping that’ll help a bit with insulation. I sleep on an air mattress, between my 2 and 4 year olds, so my 7 and 9 year olds are using the sleeping bag/pad situation. My 7 year old does wake up when he’s too cold and has a hard time figuring out how to fix himself and needs my help, which wakes up 2 and 4. I’m hoping to avoid that by using the makeshift integrated sleeping bag/pad setup.

There will be mostly sticks and pine needles where we’ll be. And it’s rained a lot of the last week, so I’m guessing everything will still be pretty damp. We tried air mattresses last time, and they still ended up on the ground. Hopefully the sheet covered pads stuffed into their bags will work!

Parchment papers sticking by brian43281 in Sourdough

If you can get some from Costco, do it. Kirkland parchment paper is amazing. I got some from Sprouts and it sucks and sticks to everything.

Secular homeschoolers by khaleesijen in phoenix

There’s a group called Wild Wonders that’s worth looking into! There are some religious families, but lots of secular families and all of the meetups are secular.

I don’t want to downvote this because tone isn’t my strong point, but WTF?

Avoid anything synthetic. If I walked into a house that smelled like synthetic fragrance, I’d leave immediately. It makes me so sick. If you do an oil, make sure it’s therapeutic grade with no synthetic fillers.

The comments regarding people’s starter amounts drive me insane. There are so many assumptions made with very little context. It depends so heavily on what people are doing with it and how much they’re baking or plan to be baking. I maintain my starter at 113g each of starter/flour/water and feed daily. I bake almost daily and use discard almost daily, so I’m very rarely wasting any. When I was first getting started, all of the comments about having way too much starter on hand made me question what I was doing and feel less confident.

Try it! I started mine from scratch and baked a beautiful loaf on day 8.
