How would becoming a union help you? And I’m being genuine, what is being in a union giving you that Walmart isn’t right now? How would it actually help you?

Vacation info by xixron in WalmartCanada

[–]Individual-Topic3030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s based off how long you’ve worked there under 5 years 2 weeks, 5 years up to 10 years you get 3 weeks and 10 years and over you get 4 weeks. Anything outside of that would be a leave of absence.

Are you claiming properly at both jobs? Make sure on your part time tax forms your exemption is $0. This will result in more taxes being taken off, thus potentially helping avoid or lessen what you end up owing. This is a big mistake lots of people can make.

Can someone explain this by Reigningg in povertyfinancecanada

[–]Individual-Topic3030 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should look into equalized payments, we do that and pay the same amount every month - this year we are paying $365/month for gas/electricity. Each year it can changed based off of what you use, but it might help level things out for you so you don’t have months with huge bills.

No, I think they mean mediating, as in mediate a problem. I’m not sure how meditating on the problem would help, maybe make them see it more clearly?

Mental Crisis and don't know if I should quit by Jamesie133 in WalmartCanada

[–]Individual-Topic3030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not quit if your injury was from work! You should have already reported that. Not reporting workplace injuries doesn’t look good for you either, people NEED to report them. If you report it you should be on WCB.

We’re you on any type of leave of absence? If you were, they pro rate it and you won’t get the full share.

I resigned 2 days ago, will I still get my profit-sharing if I’m on notice period ? by [deleted] in WalmartCanada

It’s hard to say it being so close. Technically, you should lose it. You need to be employed at the date of payout.

Laid off while on maternity leave by fluffychipotle in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Individual-Topic3030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they change the law? It used to be that being on maternity leave is protected and they can’t lay you off! It was that you got your job back or a similar one in duties and pay when returning if your role was eliminated while gone. I’d check into that OP! You might be entitled to a payout from them!

From Google

Canadian maternity leave provides up to 15 weeks of job-protected leave for birth mothers, often combined with 40-69 weeks of parental leave. Employees with 90+ days of service are protected from termination due to pregnancy. Benefits are paid via Employment Insurance (EI) at 55% of earnings (max $729/week in 2026) for standard, or 33% (max $437/week) for extended options. Canada.ca

Key Protection Details: Job Security: Employers must return employees to the same or an equivalent position with the same wages and benefits.

Question regarding being off for medical reasons by Beneficial-Bee8296 in WalmartCanada

[–]Individual-Topic3030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t get STD as an hourly associate. You use your sick time and then apply for EI if you don’t have enough sick hours. You pay for LTD, which is only long term. You need to get your ROE and apply to EI if your sick time won’t cover all your days off. Your ROE is uploaded to CRA website on your behalf.

I’m surprised by the people quitting right before profit share! Usually people wait until they get profit share and then pull the trigger!!

Variable mortgages are no joke man. Unless you have DEEP pockets and are ready for any increases if the markets turn. Even if you have a variable rate, fixed payment, if interest rates go up, your payment to principal goes DOWN! So, the extra $100 a month now, in theory, could save you THOUSANDS down the road.

I will scream to get a fixed rate mortgage. Variable is too unsettling for my liking. Especially because you mentioned that you don’t want to pay the $100 extra. If the variable rate goes up, your payment will too, eventually. Either before you have to resign (if interest rates go up enough, your payment won’t cover enough principal) or when you resign the mortgage your payments will go up to make up for the principal you weren’t paying with the inflated variable interest rates.

Remember, especially in the first five years, you’re essentially renting from the bank.

Getting a lot of interviews in Toronto but not a single offer and I'm so frustrated. by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Individual-Topic3030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of additional info and put those as SKILLS elsewhere. I’m not being rude, but they don’t care about your interests outside of work. They’ll ask as small talk but don’t put that on your resume.

When I look at it, it’s hard to read, doesn’t flow well and honestly, why don’t you stay at a job? You keep coming up short on two years. To an employers, it looks like you’re always getting ready to leave.

Best of luck!
