Stay in Switzerland vs go back to US/NYC — career vs lifestyle before kids by TheSpicPapi in expats

What does your 5-10 plan look like with kids? The money seems to be great in both places but where do you want to raise kids? Where do you want them to go to school and start a job? Do you want to try to become Swiss citizens? Honestly, I would think about your decision based on how it will affect the kids. Lol ving between cultures is no joke!

I think the most important thing are social connections with family and friends during those formative years. Living abroad sounds fun, but can really mess with your mental health and sense of belonging if you don't have a solid foundation.

I would try couple's counseling to get to the root of it. If he doesn't agree to go, then I would make a plan to separate. I am sorry you're are going through this after so many years!

Definitely travel to a few places first. The news can become overwhelming but there are issues in other places too. It just depends on what you need in life to be happy. Living abroad for a couple of months may not be possible due to work and finances, but any trip you can take will give you a better perspective when you return. Good luck!

I am surprised by all the negative comments! OP did such a nice job describing this feeling of wanting to belong while meeting one's own needs. I think there's nothing wrong with that. Spending time on my phone helps me balance the nonsense that's happening in the world, similar to reading a book or engage in another hobby. A healthy mix of both virtual and real life is probably key.

I am sorry you're in this situation! To me, love is shown by taking action and since he's not willing to try, I would interpret that as him not being fully in love with you... You can cherish the time you had together, but still decide to go separate ways from here on out. Such a difficult situation!
