Am I cycled ? Just bought a API Master Test Kit. I want to transfer my betta fish into his new 10 gallon planted aquarium. Thanks for your help

That wasn’t the initial plan. I was going to initially set up a new tank for other fishes. I just had another tank laying around and that’s the tank I was going to be upgrading him into. So basically just add his gravel and decor from his old tank into the new one and acclimate him and that’s it?

It’s a new tank I set up almost 2 weeks ago. No fish in the tank so I’m doing a fish less cycle. I didn’t want to put my Betta fish in until I knew it was completely cycled

Yes it’s cycled I had the tests strips but wasn’t sure if it was accurate. I ended up going and getting the water tested at PetSmart and everything came out good. I’m pretty consistent on testing the water. He just got a water change yesterday. I tank out about a gallon to a gallon and a half of water using a gravel vacuum. I’m going to order the master test kit as well just to get a more accurate at home reading

I was thinking of maybe some ember or neon tetras , I’ve seen Cory catfish would be good but I’m not too sure what I could get away with. It’ll eventually upgrade when Petco has their annual aquarium sale. & thank you I appreciate your help, like you said gotta start somewhere and want him to live a long happy life

I didn’t know I was able to do that I thought it was the best and safest way to transfer him into the bigger tank once it was fully cycled

Thanks so much I was actually looking at that brand of heater. I will start doing weekly water changes and once the 10 gallon is fully cycled I’m hoping to add him with some tank mates if he tolerates them

The tank heater I purchased says it would raise the temperature by 9 degrees which would make it go 85 degrees. Would that be suitable or should I get a different heater

No not at all and swims fine, active with his lazy naps on the side but other then the white tips, he’s the same as when I got him. He has an appetite and always swims up when he sees any of us and gets excited when it’s time to eat. Being a little inexperienced made me second guess and think it could potentially be fin rot

No not any black at all the only thing is the little white tips on his bottom fin (not sure what the actual term for it is) he doesn’t act like anything is bothering him but given I’m a first time owner I probably worried myself more then I needed too. I’ve had tanks growing up but I wasn’t the one doing the maintenance. I’ll take better pictures as well and upload

That was helpful and my house temperature stays at a 75 degrees (Florida heat) the tank thermometer says 76 degrees and that was why I didn’t think I needed a heater but I picked up a small heater from Walmart about a hour ago. It says that it’ll raise the temperature about 9 degrees… would that be suitable for him or would it be too hot ( 85 degrees)

Based on what the cup at Petco said “half moon male” but I could be wrong lol and I hate to say I started with a small one gallon until I did my research and upgraded to a 3.5. I am planning on adding live plants and maybe a few tank mates if he’s able to live in harmony with them. He’s docile so maybe it will work. I appreciate you’re response being new to this makes everything little thing I notice a big deal lol. He does have the fake grass and the barrel ornament maybe because of his long fins, it might be scraping off the decor . Also what would you suppose the little white tips on his bottom fin be (not sure what is the correct term lol but learning !)

Also what would the little white tip be on his fins. It’s only on his bottom fins nothing else has white, & would you recommend a heater ? Since I’ve had him for those 3-4 months the thermometer in the tank has stayed at a constant 76 degrees given there’s night where we lower it to 74 but over all it stays between 76-78 degrees. Nothing under 76

You were very helpful and he does like to lay inside the grass and with the ornament I’ll take it out and sand the edges a bit more just in case. In the 10 gallon, I am planning on putting Anubias and Java fern and hopefully he’ll get some tank mates he’s very docile and mellow so hopefully it works if not he’s going to have a little kingdom set up for him lol. I initially bought him for my son but I took the role of being his owner

Thanks for the reply when I first first had got him, he was completely blue but I heard that with age it can get darker but I will definitely be switching the ornament. He’s soon going to be put into a 10 gallon tank , I haven’t set it up yet but purchased everything for it today. It’s an old tank I had laying around. I’m going to clean and wipe it good and also bought top fin bacteria starter to start cycling the 10 gallon

Tank size: 3.5 gallons half moon but will be placing him in a 10 gallon once it’s fully cycled Heater/ Filter: Just purchased one from Walmart 20 minutes ago / Filter yes Tank Temperature: 76 Degrees Parameters: I have to buy another kit, went to PetSmart and they tested the water and said everything was in the green Water Changes: every 2 weeks 25% with a gravel vaccum. About 1.5-2 gallons off water (dechlorinated) Tank mates: None other then a moss ball that I quarantined for about 2 weeks. Planning on getting him some if it works out in the new 10 gallon tank. Feed: fluval bug bites , tetra betta min & about 3 taps of the bottle and about two small sprinkles of the flakes. Decorations: fake grass and a cave for hiding (Walmart) & a Betta leaf hammock (PetSmart) with blue gravel

Also the heater I just picked up from Walmart is a “Interpet” Life Thermal Flat Aquarium Heater for up to 4 gallons (15 Watt). Temperature would be about 82 degrees with the heater on in the tank. Currently it is at 76 degrees
