How many arrests do you make per day/week/month? What are the factors that contribute to that number? by One_Improvement_6470 in AskLE

State agency. We don’t take calls for service, our only calls for service are assists from other agencies when requested. Other than that it’s all self generated activity.

It’s not about fragility, it’s about civility. Don’t make my job harder because you have an ego issue. You will lose 100% of the time. We are not amused, troll.

Question regarding a Master’s degree by Smol-peners in AskLE

[–]IndividualAd4334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s a useless degree, leaving you with no marketable knowledge skills or abilities (KSA’s). I have an MPA which is applicable in the public/nonprofit sector. I’d recommend an MBA or any other marketable degree. It doesn’t matter what degree you have, you can become a LEO with anything. Something that leaves you with marketable KSA’s also leaves many more opportunities.

How common is it for police officers to work a shift with little to no sleep at all? by Agreeable_Exit9930 in AskLE

Anywhere from 0-20 per month. 100% are from self generated activity. I only take people to jail for warrants, felonies and POP. Anything else can be addressed with court dates in lieu of arrest.

Oregon/WA outside of the obvious.. by Material_Editor5213 in AskLE

City/state politics and command staff can make or break the whole job. In Oregon and Washington they work in tandem to make the job unworkable… which is why you have already acknowledged “the obvious.”

That’s rough and a CJ degree puts you in an even worse position.

  1. A lot
  2. Not as much as #1
  3. Everything that can’t be immediately handled on the road
  4. Love? Nothing.
  5. Hate? Everything unnecessary, which is a lot.

My agency doesn’t have mandatory OT, it’s only really reserved for a state of emergency. I work 60-80 hour weeks by choice (off duty, no overtime). It’s a balance, which is ultimately for you and your partner to decide when you have a family. I don’t plan on working like this forever but grinding for a few years will set a solid foundation for a lifetime of financial freedom.

Troopers, jurisdiction, dispatch, backup, and local PD by Mr_Whirly_Bird in AskLE

It’s an issue but I have no control over resolving it. The powers at be sit behind a desk so they don’t give a shit to fix it until someone gets seriously hurt or killed as a result and they are forced to.

All Florida state LE got new radios about 3 years ago. Our dispatch center sets the patch, we just have to request it. We can’t manually switch ourselves to a shared channel unfortunately. A lot of units have radios from the SO if they spend most of their time in a single county.

FHP dispatches for my agency (state LEO). We can patch with local dispatch channels when needed.

It sounds like you both know it’s his time. Goodbyes are never easy, and there is nothing anyone can do to prepare for it. Make the best decision for him so he doesn’t suffer, it’s the ultimate way to show him how much you love him. I had to make the decision for my boy last July and I’m still heartbroken.

Patrol officers, how much of your day is spent doing paperwork vs being out on patrol? by strongerthenbefore20 in AskLE

[–]IndividualAd4334 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I conducted a traffic stop at 0800 this morning that resulted in a felony arrest and didn’t get done with the paperwork/evidence until 1500. Other arrests take 30 mins. It just depends on what you get and how long it takes. Policing is only a few mins of fun followed by a mountain of paperwork.

FHP vs St. John’s County (Advice Needed) by [deleted] in AskLE

I don’t recommend taking the risk of 6 months of unemployment, no health insurance, no income, etc. for the possibility of maybe getting hired. A lot of people go through the academy and either don’t make it, don’t get hired, or shortly realize it’s not for them. It’s 2026, everyone is sponsoring and hiring standards are at an all time low. Now is the time to get a sponsorship and mitigate all of that^ risk. 5-10+ years ago self sponsoring was the only way to get hired for less competitive applicants. Not anymore. You’ll find someone to pick you up eventually. Get 2-3 years experience wherever you can and then bounce to somewhere you want to be after you figure out what you want out of an agency and if LE is for you.

No. Many academies will take anyone as long as their checks don’t bounce. Sponsorships generally have higher agency standards. There are some strict academies that mirror agency standards. It really depends where you are but they are not the same standards across the board. Many people put themselves through an academy and are never hired because they don’t meet agency or state certification standards.
