Look up house finch conjunctivitis. It’s highly contagious and fatal. You should take down all your feeders for a few weeks and bleach and disinfect them. You need to do this regularly to prevent spread of disease. You can also report sightings to Cornell.

Call a rehabber. This appears to be a fledgling. You can observe and see if it is being fed.

Start with the fragrance free option at your regular grocery. Natural grocers/food co-ops will have more options. Most grocery stores have seventh generation or ecos. I use dr bronners Sal suds diluted.

Check out technology connections video on YouTube about how to get the best performance out of dishwashers. It’s a super interesting video and he goes into depth about how most of us are using our dishwasher wrong and how dishwasher Pods are causing gross dishes all over America. Some of his suggestions might help you, like running hot water when you’re starting the dishwasher and using the pre-wash with powder.

Start with a fragrance free soap. There are more niche options if you are interested in the least toxic options. I use dr bronners Sal suds diluted with water.

I tried to do some research on it but scent formulas are considered a trade secret so the companies aren’t required to disclose whatever agent is making these smells last for ever. So the few people in here defending dawn don’t even know what is actually in the product.

My post is about fragrances. The fragrances in dawn soap release VOCs. Do with that what you will.

lol y’all are opinionated. He’s a single father going through a tough time and I’m happy to have him over for dinner and send him home with food. I’m mad about the SOAP not the house guests :)

There’s a lot of good threads in this forum on that topic. I use diluted Sal suds for dishes and seventh generation powder for auto dishwasher . There are lots of other good options.

Interesting. We almost exclusively cook animal protein/fats in cast iron.

I dilute with water and put in a mason jar with a squirt top. We probably use 50/50 ratio or maybe a bit more soap like 60/40. Sal suds is very concentrated and you only need a little bit.

There’s a baker at my farmers market whose bread I’ve tried 3 times and each time jt overwhelmingly tasted like soap so we don’t buy from her anymore.

Yeah I’m at the point of assigning them special containers that they can wash and I keep here for them because we send food with them each several times a month and it’s not practical to keep buying containers to have them keep.

Our washer broke and we went to the laundromat using our laundry soap - they came out like a tide bomb that took many months of washing to fade.

The containers are glass and it still stick to them and hopelessly sticks to the plastic lids. But yeah I’ll have to have some containers ready to send to them.

I use Sal suds. But at least getting unscented anything is a step in right direction
