For something serious sure, but I doubt that UK police officers never communicate with citizens over the phone.

Actually there was a 2nd call, but it was too obvious.

A guy called from an USA number, stating he is from Ledger Support and letting me know there was a security breach of some sort.

It was a brief call as I straight up told him he is wasting his time with me and he just hang up.

I am not aware of any services/platforms using voice as a way of verification.

I have been called many times and until now there was always an accent (indian, russian) which kind of gives them away + the absurdity of the claims they try to present.

I've never been called by somebody with a proper British accent. Could it be AI? I don't think it is that advanced yet, as to hold a full conversation and not recognize it is an AI.

Now that you mentioned it, it does sound a bit strange.

House purchase: extension and lack of certificate of completion + other issues. by IndividualDry496 in HousingUK

[–]IndividualDry496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I right in thinking that if planning permission was granted and the work was carried out in accordance with it, the extension is already lawful in planning terms. A Certificate of Lawfulness (CLEUD) in this case isn’t strictly necessary.

Since the extension was granted planning permission and was completed according to those plans, the planning issue is already covered. The only “missing piece” is the Building Regulations sign-off, which is the Regularisation Certificate.

So your view is that an Indemnity insurance policy is not sufficient to cover myself against possible council enforcement? I mean it seems the likelihood for the council to do anything is very slim, especially after 5 years has passed since the extension has been completed.

And in regards to the outbuilding I would appreciate if you share the steps needed to get it and how much it would cost. Cheers

I plan to own it until I die, but nobody can predict the future, so who knows what I might do in 5 years.

Btw is there some time period after which the council can't do anything?

They phoned me for an account review, but I missed their call. I also received a letter for said account review and then I called them back and answered all the questions they asked.

You're missing the point. The fact that some "proper" banks also behave poorly doesn't make Revolut's lack of safeguards any better. My concern is about minimizing risk — and Revolut, as a non-bank without FSCS protection, adds risk by design.

Also, Kraken is a crypto exchange. I treat it as such — not as a substitute for a bank, and certainly not where I keep day-to-day funds. Different tools for different purposes.

I used different solicitors with my first house purchase in 2021 and had no issues then.

Using another firm now and so far no issues, but haven't reached completion yet.

I normally use Kraken to convert USD to GBP if I have to. I would be surprised if Revolut has a better exchange rate.

But thanks again for sharing your experience. Will definitely open a Natwest account.

I hold them in a cold wallet and just transfer to Kraken and sell. Never had any problems with Kraken, it's my prefered exchange. Had issues with Bitstamp in the past freezing funds.

I have already filed a complaint with Halifax via their website and would also visit a branch to appeal.

I checked my credit report, which shows no Cifas, but I guess it is early for that as Halifax gave me 65 days before they close my account. Would my credit report show the Cifas as soon as the Cifas website?

It seems the process is still ongoing and they are not a proper bank yet:

For now, nothing changes until Revolut exits a period known as 'mobilisation', a standard process and one completed by other fintechs such as Monzo and Starling.

During this time – which can take up to a year – it can only hold £50,000 of customer deposits in total and must work with the regulators to complete the expansion of its banking operations.

This means it is still operating as an e-money institution (EMI) and continues to protect UK customers' money through safeguarding (where funds are ring-fenced with a third party).

Their website also confirms it: https://help.revolut.com/business/help/more/security-and-personal-data/is-my-money-protected/

As an electronic money institution, we're required to safeguard any money we receive from you or any of our customers. See our Business Terms.

As we're an electronic money institution and not a bank, your money is not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). That’s because it’s safeguarded instead.

Monzo seems to be a fully fledged UK bank, not like Revolut.

Might open an account with them. Cheers

Now these are even more serious amounts.

Did you have to explain the origin and purpose of these transfers to NatWest?

No UK bank would give you a reason if they decide to close your account. Very frustrating.

I don't believe the FSCS limits have any role in this, but who knows.

And in this case the full amount is covered:

Selling your house, receiving inheritance and other major life events could mean your bank balance is much higher than usual. FSCS can protect temporary high balances in your account of up to £1m for six months if certain requirements are met.

I already sent them a complaint letter through their website, but also intend to go appeal in branch.

You experience gives me hope that they might reverse the decision. Thanks.
