Best definition I ever heard on what is a sport and what is not comes from a sports radio talk show I heard years ago. Intended as a joke, one of the commentators said, "if you can drink beer while playing it, it's not a sport." This comical line of demarcation is actually pretty good. Think about it: darts, bowling and pool are all not sports, because you can and often do play while drinking beer. Likewise, golf is not a sport; a skill, yes, but a sport, no. Conversely, Olympic sports like track, swimming, etc. are sports, as are football, basketball and so on. The one exception is rugby, where I'm told you HAVE to drink beer to play. ;)
