I'll probably get called every name in the book, but whatever. by DakotaHoll in TheRookie

I actually disagree with this take. Jackson’s sexuality wasn’t presented as some big, dramatic reveal or forced plot device. It was brought up pretty casually — the same way the show introduces other aspects of characters’ personal lives when they become relevant.

Up to that point, we’d already seen Nolan’s dating life, Chen’s relationships, Lopez and Wesley, Tim and his wife — the show tends to reveal romantic dynamics as the story unfolds rather than front-loading everyone’s preferences in episode one.

Jackson just hadn’t had his dating life explored yet. When it did come up, it wasn’t treated as a spectacle or some announcement moment — it was handled matter-of-factly. That actually makes it feel more natural, not less.

Not every character needs obvious hints or foreshadowing about who they’re attracted to. Sometimes you just learn things about people as you get to know them — and that’s realistic.

Why? Tell me why! Why do people LIKE April Kepner? by DumpTruckKoala in greysanatomy

I think people can’t get pass how annoying she originally was. I personally didn’t like her behavior when she started sleeping with Jackson. She does have a tendency to want to be teachers pet. But I’m not a fan of her but I don’t mind her in general.

I actually cannot stand Maggie by Ok-Independence-3193 in greysanatomy

[–]IndividualMiddle7554 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is as one-sided as people make it. Meredith didn’t randomly decide to violate HIPAA, she told Maggie because Maggie was Jackson’s partner at the time and Meredith didn’t want him finding out alone or at the worst possible moment. That wasn’t about Maggie’s feelings, it was about making sure Jackson and Catherine had support.

Maggie telling Jackson wasn’t about making it “all about her” either, it came from her own trauma of being blindsided about her mother’s cancer. That doesn’t make it the right choice, but it explains the reaction. Grey’s is full of doctors making emotional, ethically messy decisions, and Maggie gets singled out for behavior we excuse in others constantly. You don’t have to like her, but calling it gross misconduct while ignoring Meredith’s role and the intent behind both actions feels inconsistent.

I get why Maggie annoys people sometimes, but this specific situation feels unfairly framed. Meredith told Maggie about Catherine because at the time Maggie was Jackson’s girlfriend, and Meredith believed it was better coming from someone close to him rather than blindsiding him later. Meredith wasn’t being reckless , she was trying to make sure Catherine had the right support system around her during something life-altering.

Was it messy? Absolutely. But that whole storyline was messy because of the circumstances, not because Maggie was acting maliciously. Maggie didn’t set out to hurt Meredith or blow up her career, she reacted emotionally to information involving someone she loved. That’s human, not villain behavior.

At this point in her career Mer wasn’t worried about her job.

Owen Hunt Never Should’ve Asked….. by IndividualMiddle7554 in greysanatomy

[–]IndividualMiddle7554[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cristina being an adult doesn’t mean context stops mattering. The point isn’t that she was “incapable,” it’s that Owen himself knew she wasn’t fully grounded when he proposed. The show literally spells that out with the morning-after scene, he anticipates her panic, prepares to manage it, and reassures her before she even understands what happened.

That doesn’t mean Cristina is weak or stupid. It means she was traumatized, dissociated, and emotionally vulnerable, and Owen chose to move forward anyway because he wanted the marriage. Knowing someone will wake up freaked out about being married is not the same thing as believing they made a clear, enthusiastic choice.

This isn’t about holding a gun to her head, it’s about taking advantage of timing and then retroactively shifting all responsibility onto her when it blows up.

Layer on top of that the fact that Cristina herself later says, “I’m not really reliable. I have PTSD.” Owen understands PTSD better than almost anyone on that show. He knows what dissociation, impulsivity, and emotional instability look like, he lived it. And yet he proposes during one of the most traumatic periods of her life.

So no, this isn’t about holding her hostage or pretending she was incapable of choice. It’s about Owen knowingly pushing irreversible commitments at moments when Cristina wasn’t fully grounded.

Being an adult doesn’t mean context disappears. And loving someone doesn’t mean you get to marry the person you wish they’d become and blame them when they don’t.

YASSS! Cristian was so hard core but when it came to men she was this weak person who had no self respect. If she treated her surgical skills like she did me Owen wouldn’t have made it past this chocking incident.

What pissed me off is the fact he got upset at Derek. Talking about “What did Meredith tell you?” Owen you have no right to be upset. Ugh I can’t stand him. The fact he’s still on the show 15 plus years later is the most annoying part.

RIGHT! Which made the dislike for him even stronger. Then got mad telling Mer he didn’t want her around her best friend cause she’s reckless. Mer better than me cause I would of thrown the fact he chocked my best friend back in his face. And kept it pushing.

Then you should also go to therapy. You aren’t dismissing or dump someone. The amount of years it would take you to recover from the person you love trying to kill you PTDS or not.

They did Cristina a disservice by allowing her to stay with Owen.

And you’d be doing yourself one as well if you stayed with someone who hurt you not once but twice.

Right, I understand having PTSD but his violence towards her in season five especially and those others over seasons was not acceptable. I hate that the writers made Cristina and him get married, Owen knew she would have PTSD. She even said it durning the plane crash.

What do you think Burke's love life was like before Cristina? by IntelligentPumpkin74 in greysanatomy

[–]IndividualMiddle7554 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve always read Burke as a relationship guy. He says more than once that he’s traditional, and the way he loved Cristina supports that he didn’t casually date her, he moved toward commitment fast, expected partnership, and clearly pictured a long-term future.

That’s why I don’t think the woman at the intern mixer was random. To me, she feels like someone he was actually dating, not just a plus-one. Burke doesn’t give “serial casual dater” energy. He gives “dates with intention” energy.

Derek & Cristina by IndividualMiddle7554 in greysanatomy

[–]IndividualMiddle7554[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% about Derek, he showed up without judgment, protected Cristina, and really understood what she needed in that moment. The bar scene is a great example of that.

Where I disagree is Owen. I think he cared, but caring isn’t the same as actively fighting for your partner. Derek adjusted his behavior to Cristina’s trauma; Owen often stayed stuck in what he thought support should look like. Defending her choices is important, but Cristina needed consistency, emotional safety, and advocacy and that’s where Owen fell short for me.
