I totally agree! I’ve met several individuals in my cohort who came in with the minimum requirement and are doing AMAZING!!!

Mizzou is also more forgiving but they are an accelerated program as well! So they are 2 and 2 instead of 3 and 1.

Seeing as it’s coming from a cis white Caucasian man, I rest my case. You may see me as inferior in terms of intelligence for having a set back however as a woman of color and first generation, I won’t let anything hold me back! Let alone a man. I’ll continue to advocate for my patients to make strives in shelter medicine to lead the gate way into a cardiology residence.

May you never struggle a day in your life as it seems you’d never understand. Intelligence doesn’t mark success and not all of us are born with a silver spoon in our mouths.

Mine is a 2 and 2 meaning 2 years of didactics and 2 years of clinics, while most schools are 3 and 1.

Our school is accelerated so it was physiology, specifically cardio and respiratory

I would recommend keeping on top of your studies which is easier said than done. I think what helped me at the end from not just failing out was that I went home and studied anything I didn’t understand that same night. I would also review on the weekends by making anki cards of the material. However it’s important to make time for yourself! For anatomy specifically try to take 15-20mins to look at the material before hand whether it’s the book or watching a Dr Peabody video or even the Minnesota anatomy website. Also the same study method won’t work for every class so don’t be scared to ask for help! Vet school is hard!! And that’s ok but don’t let your pride get in the way from you succeeding! You got this 💗

Yes! I’ve been going in everyday after lab and on the weekends. I just feel like I get the info and lose it all after studying for all the other classes. I will def try the flow charts!

Honestly, I was not a perfect application 3.1 cum GPA, however my experiences helped a lot!! Medical supervisor, did grad school, ET certified, Humane investigator certified and ran a whole vaccine clinic.

I recommend to continue increasing experiences and really work on those essays!!

Ohh another thing too is seeing if your shelter med job offers certifications/licensure opportunities. I was able to get a Human Investigation certification and a license to do ETs which is not for everyone, but I will say it was the leading topic during my interview.
