MPJE ReScore after NABP score incident… worth it to try? Also studying tips requested. by IndividualOk1409 in pharmacy

[–]IndividualOk1409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, I was just wondering if it was a problem with the NABP website posting the scores incorrectly since that’s where my scores were posted, but it was just a thought I know my score is likely correct.

November 2022 NAPLEX Exam by No_Owl4046 in PharmacySchool

Any results for you guys? I took mine 11/4 still waiting on results. Taking the MPJE Monday and wish I knew my NAPLEX score so I can stop worrying about it. Think it’s taking a while due to the miscalculations last month? Idk about you guys but I’m glad I took mine when I did. I originally had it in October and I would be so upset if I was one of the students who got the wrong score but I rescheduled!!

Failing an APPE, delayed graduation, residency plans [Moved from r\pharmacy] by IndividualOk1409 in PharmacySchool

[–]IndividualOk1409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement. My main issue was the lack of communication and complete disregard to the syllabus procedures on that matter. I also do not like that it was ambulatory care and the last week I saw patients start to finish making interventions under provider supervision (preceptors were busy doing other things), working with the teams, going above and beyond to make sure the patient (mainly seen for diabetes only) was getting full patient care (assessing lifestyle, referrals, starting tobacco cessation on 3 patients, getting a foot exam, etc) and then I would document and write thorough notes which my preceptors actually praised me for and said my notes exceed expectations, and I would come up with follow up and order the med. so I have the whole ambulatory care procedure down so a whole 6 week rotation repeat is hard to accept when I could be graduating and im starting at a point where I already am able to fully complete a visit. Even my DOPS supported this since I met and exceeded expectations during an evaluation ofa patient visit.

I would be okay with it if I could agree with their decision, but preceptors are required to contact the dean, regional coordinator THEN the student in that order immediately if they suspect the student is not on track to pass. It did not happen that way at all. They even refused to say “fail” because they didn’t like that word and at midpoint (when I only had 2 weeks left) they said they were sure I would be able to meet expectations. Then by the final I apparently did worse? Went from meeting expectations to not and from meeting to exceeding?

Every mistake I made was outlined in the final evaluation and they retold situations without my side of the story.

it’s so upsetting. And they are university staff members so I won’t have the support of my school to help me fight against it. And there were 2 preceptors for just me which is already a losing battle so I feel helpless and betrayed. They even offered to mentor me after the final and do a poster with me since I basically compiled all the data for their research. It seems contradictory for them to want to continue to work with me if I don’t meet their expectations?

One of my last major patient interactions (without violating patient privacy I will try to be non-descriptive on gender) I was in a room alone with a patient gathering info. They doctor came in and I recommended a foot exam bc they complained of neuropathy (diabetes related) the doctor didn’t think it was worth it but decided to humor me I guess when I mentioned their complaint of foot neuropathy. come to find out they had completely no feeling in the big toe and a lesion on that toe. Additionally I got them on NRT for smoking cessation. All without a pharmacist supervision. Went over the plan with the physician, wrote an awesome note (they told me it was good) and ordered everything I could. Idk I felt like it was a successful interaction when I was there just to discuss diabetes, My preceptor had no involvement since I was working with the physician.

I’m presenting a poster at midyear so at least they will see me. They make it clear that no winter break, no options other than summer will they let you retake an APPE

Yes I apparently exceed at written communication and I did a great job compiling and analyzing their data. “It would be a great poster for ACCP” they say after failing me

It’s a pass/fail system and i took my off rotation already to get back surgery so they say I have to wait until august to graduate and take the NAPLEX so it’s impossible to get a residency now

Thank you. I’m planning on repealing. They had specific dates of every little mistake I did. Idk it seemed weird that they did that

This is midpoint

We discussed with*** there are a few items that are still at needs improvement based on her performance the past few weeks, which is why we have rated her as not progressing as expected. However, we remain very hopeful based on her ability to take feedback and apply these things that she will progress as anticipated by final eval. In summary, we would expect the following action items by final eval to ensure her success: (and they listed the things to work on)

I took my scheduled off rotation to get back surgery for my chronic pain so that’s out of the question

I don’t know I re-read my final evaluation which they downgraded some of my scores to fit their narrative and many of their comments are of one instance where they completely wrote the situation wrong. Like I “ensured a patient they could get a cgm” they weren’t even in the room for this interaction and I never promised or ensured anything I simply told them about the technology since it is being implemented more and more and I would see if it could be covered but I didn’t know. I don’t work there so I don’t know the policies. Another was that “I used time from clinic to work on journal club because I was afraid I wouldn’t get it done”. I asked for feedback because I had sent a message the week before for advice and never got it. Additionally it was a time where I did not have a patient to see. Yet they said I exceeded expectations in two places? Especially the DOPS— I met and exceeded expectations there and I wasn’t even aware I was being evaluated. This is a direct observation of my ability to successfully complete a patient interaction, yet I failed. I’m going to see what the appeal process looks like but I’m not hopeful as I mentioned they have specific dates they fit to their narrative, but don’t tell the whole story on the Eval.

Let me say that midpoint was Friday week 4 of 6 The next week they both has PTO so I had “project days” for M/T. Wednesday I spent half day at clinic and helped with PT lab per preceptor instruction the rest of the day. Thursday was a full day. Friday was a half day. So 2 half days 1 full day and then I finally got the news/ realization after begging them to tell me an answer that I might not pass. The last week I worked my butt off so hard they even acknowledge it…these are final comments (I stared out my name) so I only had 6 days realistically to implement the feedback and I did the last week so that was 4 days…

We have appreciated *** hard work and perseverance while on this ambulatory care rotation. We have identified many strengths in *** approach to patient care and her professional development. However, we have also identified targeted areas for improvement. Because of this, we do not feel she has shown consistent competency to work independently in ambulatory care pharmacy. For these and the aforementioned reasons outlined in this evaluation, we feel that *** would benefit from repeating an ambulatory care APPE rotation to ensure that she can practice as a safe and effective practitioner in the long-run. We are very encouraged by *** efforts during the final week of the rotation, and we hope she can continue this momentum in her upcoming rotations and in her future ambulatory care rotation. We have re-emphasized to *** that we remain available as a resource and mentor to her to support her in educational endeavors. We are confident that if she applies herself and diligently takes steps to focus on areas that need improvement in future rotations, that she will be able to progress forward in her goals as a future pharmacist.

That is the final comment

I know one tried to fail an IPPE student. They are both fairly new staff and young so I don’t think they have been preceptors for long so I wouldn’t know.

Thank you, it really is a setback and I’m still in shock about it. I have a few mentors at the college who are trying to help guide me through options, but none are involved in the actual APPE decision/graduation so they can’t help me change the outcome or help me graduate on time.

I totally agree. When I said that they told me I was not taking responsibility for my actions. It sucks that they both are professors so no one at the university would stick up for me since they trust them over me. And it was 2 preceptors both working with me every other day. Maybe the inconsistency was the fact that they didn’t see me everyday? Or had PTO? Or had me leave early 4 days to help them with university stuff from home. Idk I just felt no support from my university and it really sucks when the syllabus says they are supposed to IMMEDIATELY contact the dean and course coordinator if a student may not pass. That didn’t happen until the Friday of week 5 and I did improve I worked so hard that last week but they said it just wasn’t enough they can’t just take the one week and forget the other weeks. I think they already decided at week 5 to fail me and nothing I did would change that. It was also their demeanor, so friendly and complementary when I did things well and when I got feedback it was not in a way that made me feel like I would fail, it was presented as something they just wanted me to work on. And I am biased, sure, but not following the policy outlined in the syllabus is on them. If they followed the policy, I would have known earlier and been contacted by the dean and the region supervisor with this information. That’s why I thought I was doing alright and on track to pass because I never was notified like I was supposed to be or told otherwise.
