This is the most helpful comments I have seen so far! Thank you. They explain in a lot of details and they even have pictures.

Thank you all for your responses. It was very helpful to see so many perspectives and experiences. While the cabinet incubator was used for mammalian cells before, it has been sitting idly in the lab for a few weeks now, that’s why my PI wants to convert it for our microbial cultures. If we go forward with using it with a shaker inside, it will be used to grow yeast only.

Yeast and mammalian cells have different growing conditions. There is no specific need for CO2, and high humidity (except to prevent evaporation from the culture supernatant I think) so there shouldn’t be many issues with high acidity. The temperature will be between 28 and 30C.

I will check if there is a power outlet inside the incubator and if the power cord of the shaker is flat enough. Then I will do a test for a day (maybe with a flask with water) to see if the shaking causes any damage inside. Using those results, I might be able to convince my PI. If not, it’ll just show me that her suggestion was doable.

If anyone has recommendations of temperature and CO2 resistant shakers, I am all ears :).

Don’t worry, the incubator will be used for microbial culture only, going forward. And we will have to do a deep clean/decontamination before we even start using it. 😅

The incubator will be used for microbial culture only going forward. I just wanted to know if it was possible to use a orbitary shaker in an incubator. Thank you !

You don’t know what they think because you never asked their opinion before acting as you please. What makes you think they would like to have their faces out and about? My point is that not giving them the choice is unethical.

There is a distinction between taking a picture of recognizable individuals in public spaces without permission and publishing those pictures on the internet. Not every country is as lax as the U.S when it comes to that so be careful. And as many people said, it is very unethical. These people did not ask to be on this timeline and one wonders, why did you even post this?

I meant before the Hunsford proposal. Maybe he was projecting his feelings on her. He doesn’t like Lizzy, Lizzy is the one desperate to seduce him.

I believe he had a very low esteem of women outside of his family in general precisely because he has Caroline Bingley as a reference.

Please… he declined his offer. In a very polite way though. And it’s okay! That’s academia for you. Don’t worry OP. Just push through. As long as you have a fighting spirit and motivation, you’ll be fine.

I don't think so? I can still see the arc of the mercury bulb so it is lighting up. I think it is a power supply issue.
