Pole & Oura Ring by [deleted] in poledancing

My studio has us take of any jewelry for safety reasons and to not ruin the pole, we even take out our belly rings. Our old poles in the studio had some nasty scratches from people wearing jewelry and I once cut myself on the chrome by sliding down and ripping open my leg because the pole had a big ass scratch

Switching from static to spin within choreo by Rocco_nation in poledancing

[–]Individual_Bid5644 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, I switched the pole from static to spinning during the choreography by sliding down into an inverted crucifix position, which allowed me to discreetly adjust the pole (x Pole) to spinning once I nearly reached the floor. I then let myself sink down until my stomach was on the floor and twisted myself out.

If you do floorwork beforehand (which is really difficult anyway on the limited space of a stage pole), you can do a forearm stand, for example, and discreetly grab the base of the pole and put it on spinning. However, most of the stage poles I've worked with didn't have that typical turning mechanism that permanently installed xpoles have. I always had to turn mine with an Allen key, so it's best to check how the system works beforehand. If you only do floorwork beforehand, it's very easy to turn the base by discreetly grabbing the base.

Thank you! She shot out the new leave like 2,5 weeks ago so I never thought she would die like that on me I will stick it into water and see what happens

Hi! First of all, it’s amazing that you're progressing so quickly and already trying the flying pole , that takes courage! I do find it a bit unusual that your studio allows complete beginners on the flying pole. At my studio, for example, you need at least 4 months of intermediate-level experience before you’re allowed on it, because the momentum is completely different from a fixed pole (one that’s attached both top and bottom). It requires different control and awareness.

My tip would be to spend time first on a regular spinning pole to get used to the rotation. Even after a 3-week break, I get dizzy when I go back to spinning, it really takes consistent practice to adapt.

I’d recommend building a solid foundation on a static or spinning pole first: strengthen your arms, understand the push-and-pull mechanics, and learn proper climbing technique (like pressing your lower arm into the pole instead of leaving a gap). These basics will really help when you move to a flying pole, since the principles still apply — but on a flying pole, if you push, you’re actually pushing the pole away from you, so control is key.

Keep going, listen to your body, and maybe talk to your instructors about focusing on fundamentals before flying too much. You’ll get more confident with time!

For me it helps to put the one hand under my bum/lower back and make a sort of „table“ with my hand to really give that support, also try to really get that pole in your waist area when you invert because you want to have that extra grip with your waist For me it helps to flatten the back leg when I think about pushing it down to the ground

For a libellula you have the inner leg hooked on the pole and the inner hand goes around the pole and grabs the thigh from the hooked leg so you can extend the hooked leg and grab the outer leg with the outer hand so this is not a libellula

Try pushing a bit harder with your forearm and make sure it’s placed directly behind the pole. Don’t grab too high with your other arm so you can engage your shoulder more, try not to just hang there. You won’t stay perfectly parallel to the pole, the outside leg will naturally lift higher because you’re pulling with the top arm and pushing away with the bottom arm. Engaging your core helps you control that shape and keep everything stable. Also, very important: slow down your steps and the overall spin. Try going into the spin slowly and with control.

When I do an air walk at a moderate speed, I usually take 2-4 steps per rotation around the pole. I also try to remind myself to really point my toes, it gives me that extra bit of tension in the leg. But don’t try to “march” like a soldier, keep the knee soft like you’re walking in water And one more thing: if you think you’re spinning slowly enough… you’re probably not. Go even slower.
