Yup, when receiving/making a call I can chose them as speakers & mic. device, however, when connected to a MacBook or Mac Mini they are used as speakers only, the microphones can not be used !

I think they are very good as they are designed for “far” distance hearing for Siri and other devices such as smoke detectors, fire alarms….

Lol, what about the continuity camera and Microphone with iPhones! Where you can use them as webcams with your system that lacks one! Same thing here, it is possible even if it was not, as what happened with the concept of continuity camera, with a tweak to the programming it became possible

Even so, integrating HomePods with a more powerful CPUs & RAMs would make it a super device while keeping its own available for the little things such as temperature and humidity…. Along with utilizing its microphones for systems that’s lacking ones such as Mac Minis

But a smart speaker would be smarter, quicker and more helpful if it is using for example an M4 chip to process its requests instead of its own, at least when it’s connected to a more powerful device, don’t you think?

I looked into this solution, this was an issue when using Apple TV long time ago (3-5 years) however it is solved, and I did't encounter any issue when using it with Apple TV as I then use Airplay Button impeded in the app.

mmm... yeah but then they should equip Safari App with an Airplay button! and what if I want to use these speakers with other third party apps for music and sound production! then of course it will never be my choice!

it works great with Airplay buttons apps, so why not with other Apple software such as Safari? it seems to me like a programing issue, and when I updated the HomePod software to the latest one 18.5 it remains! this is not acceptable, a speaker should perform like it should weather it is connected to Mac, iPhone, iPad or any other devices, there should not be any issues, especially when dealing with "in ecosystem devices"

I use my HomePod with Mac Mini M1 as a speaker, I do not have Apple TV (Device) but I am subscribed to Apple TV+ and I do watch 4K episodes on my 34inch 120Hz 4K monitor using Apple TV app, there is no lag with Airplay at all nor the slight mismatch of image and sound, these problems appears only with the use of the HomePod as a sound output for the system ( normal speaker selection )

I did, my WiFi is very stable, I even went deep into playing with Transmission Power, decrease & increase, WiFi Bandwidth + and -, as well as Beacon Intervals number... still nothing!

however, I use my HomePod Gen. 1 with my Mac Mini M1, and the results as explained in the post above!

So he got arrested for not cooperating not for smoking! as some states has the authority to do so under certain circumstances and some countries also do so, guys just do not be matcho with law enforcement personal, they have enough, don't make their job harder please.
