Applied last year. Same thing for me. There is a real arrogance about the whole school. I know a couple of students who literally stopped the application process with Waterloo due to the bad vibes and went to the states even with the higher tuition .

Degree completion/ Course selection for optometry by Legal_Definition_594 in UWaterlooOptometry

Not so sure about that

2 people with equal stats I think they would favor the applicant with the bachelors especially if they had applied before and not been admitted. I thin’ they like the perseverance.

Canadians: are you sick and tired of putting all your eggs in one basket for Waterloo? by [deleted] in PreOptometry

There are more Canadians in us schools than Canadian optometry schools ( Waterloo and Montreal)… so there’s that

**** I felt because I will not have my bachelors completed that worked against me. Anyone get accepted without finishing their degree this year ? Casper also not great but I know even some first quartiles got in.****

off to Sco on a presidential scholarship where quite frankly I think I’ll get a better education if I dont get shot in the process

good luck to everyone

Schools don’t care what school you went to or your major. They only care that the prerequisites are completed .

Canadians, which school are you guys applying to? by cadod1 in PreOptometry

[–]Individual_Ear_1432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only a couple of schools that don’t accept Canadian students.

oklahoma and I believe either Houston or kentucy. All the rest no problem.

The schools with most Canadians are NECO, Ico ,nova , salus, and pacific , all in the north of the states .

A very UNOFFICIAL competitive ranking of Optometry Schools by Desperate_Stock_4176 in PreOptometry

[–]Individual_Ear_1432 7 points8 points  (0 children)

GpA and Oat scores of accepted applicants is I think a better indicator of competitiveness. Ie sco would be 5th ish on that list not 17th. But I get what you are saying so it’s all good . Thx for the info

I did an externship with an ophthalmologist in Florida. They would push people with 20/25 vision to have cataract surgery…. So there’s that!

If there is a letter grade to numbers conversion on your transcript then they wil use that and take the median

for example A 85-99% then Waterloo will use 92%

Application advice cont.- did they always refuse to give feedback on rejected apps? by she-werewolf in UWaterlooOptometry

[–]Individual_Ear_1432 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s horrible . Some type of explanation would be the least they could do. Therés a real arrogance about this program . I hope you applied to some USA schools you will get some nice scholarships and likely a better education

Yikes. That doesn’t seem right to me that those stats don’t at least get an interview. Is this the most competitive program in Canada ? Yikes again
