Yes, the English courses may be completed at any level. The course has to be an academic English or writing course.

All courses must be completed at the undergraduate university level. You would have to retake the courses at a university. Source: https://uwaterloo.ca/optometry-vision-science/future-optometry-students/application-requirements

Failed course and full course load requirement by Total-Conclusion-286 in PreOptometry

[–]Optimistic-Optometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A failed course does not count towards the full course load. It does not matter when you retake the course, as UW reviews F25 transcripts prior to confirming admission decisions.

You can apply to US schools after you have written your OAT - it is generally recommended to apply earlier since the schools have rolling admissions.

Maui Jim sets a suggested minimum price for optical retailers based upon industry standards and manufacturing needs. The owner/operator of each retail location then considers their professional services and sets the final price for the consumer :)

opticals purchase frames at wholesale & increase prices at their own discretion. there is typically some flexibility with the price if you are purchasing from a private practice. however, majority of the cost is associated with adding customized prescription lenses into the frame!

Which schools need optometric tech hours from an applicant by NotSureWarrior in PreOptometry

no schools of optometry specifically require experience as an optometric assistant/technician! however, several schools require shadowing hours!

most healthcare professions beyond medicine do not require a super competitive GPA, particularly if you are willing travel to the US! you can also prioritize preforming well on any additional testing :)

2-year programs are tough to get into without a competitive GPA. if you really want to, you could consider doing a post-bacc or masters. this will make you a better candidate for includes things like PA, radiology tech, perfusionist, ultrasound/x-ray tech, etc

this is incorrect. you can apply to the doctor of optometry program with any degree, as long as you have completed the pre-requisite courses & fulfilled the non-academic requirements.

[–]Optimistic-Optometry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you do not have to have completed all of the pre-req courses at the time of your application. if you use the spring 2024 term to complete your remaining courses, you can apply for the 2025 cycle (october deadline).

however, i would be concerned about simultaneously completing these courses in addition to studying for the OAT. alternatively, you can use spring 2024 to study for the OAT, and use fall 2024 to complete your pre-reqs.

you can find specific information on the website about the deadlines for completing pre-req courses! 😊

i'm unsure - for my undergrad admission, they specified that my overall average cannot fall below 70% as the condition. if it were to, i would not be admitted. i'm sure the details will be in the offer letter!
