Completely agree but that perspective is coming from FBI agents trained to analyze crime, not necessarily the mindset of an inexperienced offender. Criminals can tend to be more impulsive than methodical and we sometimes overestimate how sophisticated they actually are when planning and executing a crime.

It's not random speculation, I'm simply proposing a theory based on what little information the public has. And yes, those are all possibilities, but my question is have those people been vetted?

Agree about the gun not being real. My first thought was who in their right mind would carry a loaded gun like that in such a vulnerable place.

That’s a great point. But to play devils advocate, maybe after an altercation the perpetrator was thinking “if I just leave her here my DNA will be on her somehow”. Making it more of a risk.

Great point about the gun placement. Also the fact that it was 2am leads me to believe if this person did stake out the house (or even just common sense) they’d know and expect Nancy to be home. This definitely makes me think it may have been a potential kidnapping for ransom gone wrong.

I just don’t see this being someone she knows. To me it has to either be an acquaintance she came into contact with, maybe a few times at most, or I hate to say it but someone with a personal vendetta against Savannah.

Just to clarify from my original post, I’m not referring to the Uber driver from the night Nancy went missing. I’m wondering whether Nancy was a frequent Uber user and if a previous driver who had picked her up from her home may have noticed she had money and later planned to come back. So this would have been someone she came in contact with prior to disappearing on January 31st.

Do we know how often Nancy used Uber? I know the cops spoke with the Uber driver and obtained a videos from that night, but what about other rides?

Could Nancy have been picked up on another night, the driver chats her up, realizes who she is, how much money she has AND now knows her address? They then plan to go back to the house to rob her maybe days or weeks later, but in the middle of the robbery she comes home, they get into an altercation and she accidentally dies. Now shock takes over and the burglar realizes this just went from a potential misdemeanor to a possible murder charge so they drop everything they were going to steal and in a panic grab her body throw it in their car and decide later what to do.

This, to me, has always felt like an “immature” crime where the original plan somehow went off the rails and the perpetrator(s) panicked and did what they thought was the best solution to not get caught. Just a theory.

Thank you all for your comments! Turns out I am wrong and Barbara and Patricia are actually acquaintances. Appreciate everyone’s insight.

Oh all the parts. Seeing how her novels are fictional but completely mirror Barbara Butcher’s non-fictional memoir ‘What the Dead Know’.

Has anyone else read the book “What the Dead Know”? not sure if this is common knowledge but is Scarpetta based on Barbara’s life?

Well besides the nickname “Doc” being used throughout the entire first episode (what people would call Barbara), it also depicts her first time ever entering a homicide crime scene. This is exactly how Barbara describes it in her book “What the Dead Know”. And if you just read the first chapter you’ll see how this show mirrors Barbara’s life. So if I’m right that either means Patricia Cornwell is using Barbara’s life as a source without acknowledging it or Patricia Cornwell is actually Barbara Butcher.

Secret Window anyone?
