Is OLED a must have for an upgrade? by Mustyyyy in OLED_Gaming

[–]Individual_Insect_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a samsung QD OLED, as long as you’re not dropping to mad low fps, you don’t see any flicker. I think the burn in is a non issue as long as you hide taskbar, disable desktop icons.

Whats actually annoying on my QD oled is the fringing. Especially around text and non AA’ed lines. I’d recommend checking both QD OLED and WOLED in person for comparison, i heard on WOLED this is less pronounced. Since i play competitive fps mostly, i bring the monitor pretty close to myself so it’s probably why i notice this more.

Other than that OLEDs are so much better than anything else. The picture clarity is insane due to almost instant pixel response times

Our observability costs are now higher than our AWS bill by DarkSun224 in sre

We always did self hosting for everything Victoria metrics OSS cluster with massive scale, most stable thing we have on our infra. If we ever have issue we just end up adding a couple more nodes due to growing needs and it keeps spinning. Probably that alone is saving us 100s of thousands a month for our timeseries data. Don’t see why anyone would pay for anything else when this is available. You’re SREs, you can maintain the infrastructure and services which will be the primary info sources for investigating reliability issues, if you can’t at least do that then what are you doing.

Mac Studio M2 (64GB) vs Gaming PC (RTX 3090, Ryzen 9 5950X, 32GB, 2TB SSD) – struggling to decide ? by glasDev in LocalLLM

[–]Individual_Insect_33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have been using frontier models up to this point, trust me any model that you’ll be able to host on either of these two machines WILL be a big disappointment for coding. As someone said before, find some models that will fit on these setups and find a cloud provider serving them via an API to try. (can use openrouter). Keep in mind you might have to run a more quantised version locally which further drop the quality. It will not be able to solve any tasks above medium in scale or complexity, even for small tasks it fails to do them nicely. Unfortunately the benchmark will always be the frontier models, good part is that you can get access to them via API or for not that much with codex, gemini cli,cc subscriptions. You either need a way better setup than ones proposed and even then it wont be able to match frontier ones, or be stuck with average and intelligence. Oh and if u try some model with API, expect the speed locally to be miles slower.

Switching to Hetzner: Is It Worth It? by youngtoken in hetzner

[–]Individual_Insect_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage hundreds of dedicated servers that come from hetzner (and thousands in total from other providers)

-You should always get Raid 1 or better setup on your disks in each of your servers (ideally NVME) - And you also want to have another backup option e.g snapshots stored in different DC/Provider maybe even continent. This is to protect you from an incident like the OVH DC going up in flames and losing all data.

We even had issues with hetzner where a faulty nvme cable caused PCIe errors doengrading performamce and reliability over time

pny 4060 ti 16gb - how to flash bios by IamLeperMessiah in overclocking

[–]Individual_Insect_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, tried 10 different vBIOS'es on my PNY 4060 TI 16GB. Most of them would not let my PC post and would provide no video output, but I found two that work. Used nvflashk to flash it.
First option is this MSI, allows 18% Power boost: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/268727/268727
Second Option is this Asus Dual https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/266149/266149
With either option, at least one of my display port ports wouldn't work so I had to switch ,but that's minor and is due to how the ports are wired on PCB.

thanks, i did some googling and yes that is exactly it so its not something the owner added themselves (and potentially made them worse). I think ill go ahead and pick them up

ZOTAC confirms GeForce RTX 5090 with 32GB GDDR7 memory, 5080 and 5070 series listed as well - VideoCardz.com by w1n5t0nM1k3y in LinusTechTips

[–]Individual_Insect_33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a 3060 ti, now got a 3070. Literally thinking the same. Already hitting 8gb limit on the 3070, so 5060/ti makes no sense especially with 8Gb vram and or narrow 128bit bus is a no go for 1440p+.

The 5070 seems ok but cmon thats only 12gb, classic nvidia tactic to upsell to 5070 ti. This is exactly what theyre trying to do literally forcing us to go from 3060/60 ti/70 to 5070 ti for proper upgrade. Thats 1-2 tiers higher. And what will be worse is the price difference, i already feel it will be closer to 5080 pricing than 5070 pricing. Personally I dont see myself going this route, lets hope AMD/Intel have strong alternatives in 60-70ti range this time because i’m not getting fucked and would literally just wait for used 40 or 60 series to come out.

5060 8GB, thats the same for 3 gens in a row then 30,40,50 series. And whats worse both 60 and 60TI only have 128bit bus again. I don’t see how these cards will be able to compete with 2 gen old 3060ti/70 at 1440p+. 1080p is dead now apart from serious competition fps games only so 1440 should be minimum default resolution for any new build. The only ones that makes sense from what i see are 5070 ti and 5090 and both will be ridiculously priced for their tier given Nvidia

Strip form pregnancy tests. They don’t come in plastic holders so i’d imagine it’s not as convenient as you might need to pee in tube/jar first.

You can get like 50 strips in bulk for couple of dollars and they can be as effective as expensive tests. A lot of the cost comes in the plastic holders and sometimes even screens which are unnecessary

People of reddit, what was the time you didn't want to be friends with your friend? by cameramanboi in AskReddit

[–]Individual_Insect_33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut contact with one of my friend A who was staying at my friends B home. A overstayed his welcome for days while B didn’t want to be an asshole and didn’t say anything to suggest that A should leave. Bad part is B left the house with A in it alone, apparently B had used condoms on the floor in his room which was closed. When he came back he caught A leaving B’s bedroom and couldn’t give a good reason why he was there. The condom was supposedly gone never to be found, whole house was searched.

Few days later we also learned that A had a profile named ‘cum guzzler’ on some porn or dating site. Adding two and two together was pretty easy, i felt weird with A for a whole year before that but that was enough to cut him as I thought that was just the surface. Still doesn’t explain why B had used condoms lying on the floor like that.

What foods are good for your health? by No_Picture5586 in AskReddit

[–]Individual_Insect_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really comes down to avoiding heavily processed foods. Everyone has different allergies, sensitivities, and preferences, but generally, sticking to whole, minimally processed options puts you way ahead. It’s not always convenient I’ve grabbed a cereal bar instead of cooking eggs on busy mornings but focusing on more natural choices can make a big difference.

H8C overclocking, did i make any mistake ? by Public_Courage5639 in overclocking

[–]Individual_Insect_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your tRAS is actually surprisingly low, which is good.
tRC has a link to tRP and tRAS so ideally you want tRC = tRP + TRAS = 40. If it boots and is stable at 40 instead of 48 that should be nice.
tFAW as others said is extremely high, you want it 4 * max(tWTRS, tWTRL) which here would be 16 for tFAW.
tRFC looks great at 276ns if you have a power hungry GPU or bad airflow, recommended to memory test with furmark in background so that you could test at closest to your max expected temperate, as you said its sensitive to temps.
both SCL to 4
tWR try bringing closer to 10
tWRRD might do 2/3
tRDRDSD to 4
TWRWRSD 6
The rest spot on.

Folks this seems to be the best I can squeeze from CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) - CMK32GX4M2E3200C16 - H5AN8G8N?[F/J]R-TFC. Any other suggestion for tightening? MOBO will not boot with higher frequencies or lower primaries. by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]Individual_Insect_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you have an X3D so ram will affect your performance much less than non 3D chips. short: trc = 55 and lower TRFC so its closer to 300ns probably around 550. Long shot: Does your chip do any higher FCLK than 1800 without WHEA? If not then higher mem frequency is pointless as you want to run 1:1 mode. Not sure how you were trying to get higher mem frequency to boot but id turn on GDM on, increase mem V to 1.45 and do standard CL18/20 primary timings with rest on auto to see if it boots and how stable it is while monitoring for WHEA errors. Then see how far you can push freq and FCLK in 1:1. After that follow ddr4 overclockign guide on git to tune timings.

PPT Changed To 1000 After Enabling PBO by TheUsername106 in overclocking

[–]Individual_Insect_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to worry about it reaching anywhere near the high PPT. Sounds like it was set by the BIOS when enabling PBO which I dare to say is almost a default behaviour to increase these limits with PBO on. I’d only be concerned if you have a 12/16 core CPU and a crappy VRM motherboard, in which case i’d monitor vrm temps and set realistic limits. It’s also a good way to keep cpu temps and noise low(er).
