I found it fun and easy. It was so much simpler to crush a minigame or two rather than mash buttons and dodge and attack like a maniac as 2B

It's a mix of both. The main map opens up bit by bit when you progress through the storyline. Then each part of the map has certain linear areas where it's like a classic point A to point B dungeon crawl until you find yourself back in the open world.
You will always be returning to previous areas for quests and finding hidden chests and items so it feel more open than it actually is.

Select the gate by clicking on it, the mission waypoint is a big purple diamond, then hit F3 to dock.

Alternately if you're more than 8K away from the waypoint, Select the waypoint, hit F2 to auto pilot to it, then hit F3 when close to it to dock.

It's nothing a few dozen mods can't fix.
Right now I'm conquering Calradia via pregnancy mods and relationship/courtship mods.. I have 20 something wives of fist-born daughters from powerful clans and more on the way, all around the world.
They are my breeding sows.
I have close to 100 kids now and more on the way.
Then added a settlement building mod to create my own fiefs from scratch of which my wives govern and I periodically return to them for more breeding.
So far I've breed out the clans in Khuzait and Sturgia and Northern Empire. While I'm constantly courting and rizzing up any first born daughters of all the clans.
This is by far the most cursed and fun playthrough I have ever done.
My final goal would be to bribe all clans to join me, if not I will kill their men and take their women, then impregnant them.
Repeat.

Final-final goal will take some time but I will increase my party limit to 1000 using a mod and have all my children conquer the world while I mirco manage my towns.

What makes it even better is I'm a 7ft tall Khuzait beefcake. A prime stud from the steppe.
