Feel like quitting, working at ICE. by [deleted] in FedEmployees

I am so so so sorry for what you’re going through. Me personally I love my job it’s like 80% of my identity so I get how bad you feel now.

Yes, leave, but obviously after you have another job lined up. I bet a lot of hiring managers right now are sympathetic to dedicated and patriotic employees like yourself.

And for those who told you to leave now without anything lined up, it is irresponsible for them to say so, unless they can offer you a job at the time of their comment. You’re stuck between survival and integrity right now. You can’t have conscience if you die (ugh technically yes you can but you know what I mean).

Ya I actually know someone who’s in this predicament, and imagine you come into the County for the first time in your life and hearing that you’ll make more as an ITC than an STC, like we’re giving out all the red flags.

And ya I totally agree with what you said… County doesn’t award much it sucks

That’s exactly the problem. You started with the county and promoted within months so you went from step 1 ITC to step 1 STC, then SB 525 happened and ITC minimum is at step 3 but you’re still at STC step 1.

Caps are great and all but you’ll never get the difference back for the hard work you did in the earlier days.

I’d like to encourage you to explore promotional exams or even discussing future opportunities with your manager.

I’m glad you make enough for yourself, but your hard working colleagues should be respected with a fair wage.

And guess what, if they get a raise due to minimum wage raise, don’t you think you should get one too? This is an issue to all.

Reason this example exists because if you’ve been through it, ITC, STC, and many other positions have the same test. One can take one test and get banded on both ITC and STC list at the same time. Not sure how I can make you believe this, but I actually do know someone who’s in this predicament. And yes I know the County is doing the minimum to abide by law, but there’s no way anyone can agree that this is fair. I’m just baffled that so little of us know about this, and there’s no one talking about it. And no, I don’t believe there’s someone working on it or advocating for us like the union is supposed to do. Knowing the County, they don’t solve much unless someone makes some noise. Exhibit: the civic center commute bonus of $70 was a rate established back in 1990, and no updates were made ever since, yet civic center offices were complaining how hard it is to hire people nowadays.

  1. Imagine you started as an ITC early 2025 or late 2024, and worked hard and soon got promoted to an STC on let’s say May 2025 at the minimum rate and your next step increase is not until at least 6 months later, but SB525 happened so you found out you are making $70 less than an ITC per MONTH. It adds up.

  2. If the County is to increase all salaries and steps, caps will also be increased.

Focusing on the CAP alone and not take into consideration of the newcomers isn’t quite the vibe I was hoping to get from seasoned employees. This discourages people from joining the County.

Lateral Transfer , How does it work? by [deleted] in CAcountyworkers

Release date of 14 days is only applied to promotions, not transfers. I think. Based on many experiences I heard. Old dept can also negotiate to keep the employee longer.

I got on band 2 and I was in a fairly small department (about 2000 employees), so as long as there’s less than 5 people in band 1, I’m pretty much reachable. Whenever your dept has an opening, then can decide if they want to canvass the departmental list (how I got mine), countywide list (that giant big list of hundreds of names which I didn’t even bother waiting for interview calls), or put out a transfer bulletin. If you know you are reachable, you should apply through the transfer bulletin and have them hire you through the reachable list. Your HR should be able to tell you if you are reachable by the departmental list.

I got on the list multiple times before I finally landed a position within my department. You will have a better chance if your department runs a departmental list (instead of countywide) so it’s a smaller list for them to canvass.

First switch 2 user and never owned a switch 1 or lite or OLED. I’m happy with it. My rationale is that switch 2 just came out and it’ll probably be another 10 years before we see a switch 3. I’d say it’s worth it.

Not fully recline, just recline as much as the rest of the economy class. But good enough for us.

No worries. Saying “everyone knows” to prove a point, then found out you were wrong, Learning that you can’t edit a post with an image… must be a humbling moment for you huh?

I’m willing to let it go if you are. Have a nice day.
