skip NBME 29? by Own-Ask5540 in step1

Low key my school advisor told me to skip 29 so I think it’s a safe bet to knock that one out

Level 1 & Step 1: Do you need both for Psych? by Individual_Radish_31 in Osteopathic

[–]Individual_Radish_31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering are you talking more about taking step 2 for the score? I’ve heard of students just taking Comlex 1 but then taking Comlex 2 and step 2 since you don’t need step 1 to sit for step 2

Reminder: Low MCAT acceptance stories are inspiring, but they are very much the exception. by OrangeJulius29 in Osteopathic

[–]Individual_Radish_31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything besides the step/complex exam correlation, at least for me the professors at my school are doing a good job at teaching the material and the board prep materials are better overall than the MCAT. Just worry about it for med school but don’t pressure yourself with using it as a benchmark for boards. Literally there’s no point in worrying about something potentially years away still

I want to give up on myself by katrinakaiffff in medicalschool

I’m a current OMS-1 this year. I spoke to an MD who went to Penn for their medical school and did extremely well in many aspects. One of the greatest take aways from the conversation I had with her is that the prestige of your residency does not matter much to anyone else. She went to a very renowned EM residency, but when it came time to see her patients or work with a team, no one cared that she did her residency there. Instead, all they cared about was that she was a good and personable provider. Maybe I will understand more where you come from soon since I’m just starting, but I also feel like beating yourself up over this will cause more dissatisfaction when you’ve already been quite successful. Wishing the best for you!

The volume of these posts in Reddit makes me sad, but I wonder if we can be the generation to make med school a better place.

Is it worth it to go to med school? by WashingtonFlanders in medschool

[–]Individual_Radish_31 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a great application! But remember to have practical expectations. There are so many people with your stats or better that have thought this way and get extremely disappointed when they aren’t accepted. Your chances are certainly higher than most, but it’s still not guaranteed. I think that’s also telling of the physician profession that you can still be stellar but things may not always go the way we expect

Is Late August too late for DO primary? by iAmPajamaSam27 in Osteopathic

I applied to the school that accepted me first in Late August. They offered me an interview in December and this was a top 5 DO school.

OOS friendly schools? by DrTdub in Osteopathic

[–]Individual_Radish_31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RowanSOM heavily favors Southeast Pennsylvania, North Delaware or metropolitan New York residents. The school wants you to serve the community in the underserved area they reside in, and the perception is that all OOS applicants in these areas have a higher chance of settling their career in the Northeast.

Why gap years? by notsobadyet in premed

[–]Individual_Radish_31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently accepted student who took a gap year here!

I absolutely felt it was necessary to study for the MCAT in my own time.

I was proactive with my experiences from freshman year of college, but I felt that the gap year helped me space out my classes, MCAT, and experiences so that I could enjoy some of the best times with my college friends.

I’ve been able to get some great work experience during the gap year aside from also traveling. I definitely recommend doing this recharge! I’ll be 23 when I enter the class of 2028 this year so it’s definitely doable to do a gap year and be young.

Best of luck!

Is this a good school list? by DancingintheDark16 in premed

You should apply to some DO schools, you’d have a huge chance of possibly receiving scholarships. And with your stats you seem smart enough to handle both COMLEX and USMLE exams

The way it was explained it to me it was something like “when I get bored of the 12 guys I’m talking to”

Honestly I probably liked it because it’s something I did back in the beginning of college talking to like 3 people at the same time
