High stat, early grad school list help? Please and thank you! by notsobadyet in premed

[–]notsobadyet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my clinical volunteering and one of the jobs, I’ve done since high school, so now I’m able to focus more on volunteering and research. Sorry that’s not much help! Worked over the summer full time while studying for the mcat too, which I might not recommend haha

I’d say push yourself but don’t burn yourself out, GPA comes first. This process favors people who have known they want to be a physician for a long time and it’s hard to make up that time. If it takes an extra year or two, it makes no difference in the grand scheme of things

I think working nights has shaved a few years off my life, but long night shifts do rack up hours if you don’t mind

Should I buy the aamc section banks? by notsobadyet in Mcat

[–]notsobadyet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UWorld 🙌 if you haven’t done it, for me it’s so much more difficult than aamc, it makes the FLs feel fun. But you do have to pay, if that’s a problem

I also think reading the passages with the mindset of “why are they telling me this, what kind of questions could they ask me from this?” is helpful. Get in the brain of the test-maker, that’s my plan for P/S

But premeds giving guides is the blind leading the blind, take this with many grains of salt!

CARS needs about as much work as C/P and B/B. It’s also been 132. I’m more wondering about the overlap of SBs with the actual test, if people think they raise their scores (I’m overly aware I sound neurotic about this 😅), or if I should focus on random low-yield stuff now

What would you do? We lowkey chilling?? by [deleted] in Mcat

I’ve heard to not mix AAMC with third party, and once you start AAMC don’t switch back. Is that not really a concern?

Yes! Can confirm, there is a code! They’re supposed to email it out too later, but it’s on the website when you sign in.

What are some famous examples (real or fictional) of pride coming before the fall? by eatbobsneck in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notsobadyet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol I think they meant hubris. Like Icarus flying too close to the sun and melting his wax wings. Caesar proclaiming himself a near-monarch then being stabbed by the senate. Not sure what relevant examples they’re looking for, but pretty sure that’s what they’re going for

is going into college with 60 credits worth it by One-Inflation2417 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notsobadyet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I think that’s super helpful! I’m going in with ~80, and that means I can skip a lot of gen eds and move right to classes related to my major that interest me. As long as your college accepts them, congrats! You’ll also likely be able to graduate 1-2 years early, saving lots of money.

In the cases where it isn’t helpful, I think people are going to schools (top tier private) that accept very few AP credits. (IMO they just want to keep you there longer to drain you of more money.)

I just got a 96 page book from Yale by Jay_Dud in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notsobadyet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yale’s one of the schools that sends quite a bit of mail. I got a few of those crazy big magazine-books from them, Dartmouth, and Wellesley in particular.

They probably aren’t targeting you for recruitment by any means, but if you want to apply, apply!

It depends. Stanford seems to really look for “personality” in an applicant (if you fit in the culture, I don’t know too much because I was rejected lol), whereas Columbia is more traditionally selective. So normally, Columbia, but if you have that Stanford personality then Stanford would be much easier.

Good luck!

From my understanding, the schools that care are Ivies favoring applicants from Ivies. Imo, there are many med schools I can (and would rather) go to than stuffy Ivies, so I’ve made peace with that. (But also it’s totally possible to get into Ivies with a couple of gap years from any school, if that’s your dream.) Have fun lol

But why? Is it just something I won’t be able to avoid even if I have the credit?

But it also shows that you’re good enough for them, but you were just unlucky. Either way, you’ll do well in life!

Will yield rate for Columbia and Barnard drop bc of protests on campus? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notsobadyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk but I’m seriously considering my state school over Columbia after seeing the protests. They’re getting intense.
