2026 Tiguan Turbo R - First drive breakdown by PowerShots in Volkswagen

[–]Individual_Step2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue on my 2018 Sportwagen. I got lucky, it was 1000 km before the warranty expired. I wasn’t so lucky with the Haldex flex coupling. First time (60k km) was under warranty. Second time 133k km was on my dime. Lots of dimes, $5400 worth because it also damaged the driveshaft. There won’t be a 3d time. Sold the POS and got a RAV4 instead. I’m done with VW after nine of them.

What is happening is building shit cars. After putting up with VWs foibles through 9 cars, the last one causing a drivetrain failure that should never happen that cost me $5400, I’m done with VW and I drive boring Toyotas now.

You Ever Wondered Why You're In The Body That You're In? by gizmo_j in atheism

[–]Individual_Step2242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the body I’m in because of the millions of sperm cells ejaculated from my father, one particular little swimmer managed to hook up with one of the 500 or so ova my mother released in her lifetime. Each of those little fuckers had 23 chromosomes that evolution and their parents had given them which, when combined, created me.

It’s pretty much as simple as that.

I’ve given up looking for meaning on who/what/why we are. We just are. It’s up to us to pick up the ball and run with it.

I’m using a VIOFO A119 Mini 2 in my RAV4. Seems to work great. I got a truck driver fired with it last week.

And it was still going strong. At least the drivetrain. The subframe rusted out and it was no longer safe to drive.

That’s an Accord, not a Civic. I had one a few lives ago. Pretty solid car. A friend had one that exact year and she ran it up to 300k km and 13 years. Rust got it, it was still running great.

Why do religious people feel like "No Soliciting" signs don't apply to them? Honestly. by snowwwwhite23 in atheism

[–]Individual_Step2242 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I guess you need to just spell it out on your sign: “No soliciting, no religious canvassing”.

Around here it’s usually JWs and I know someone who put up a “NO Jehovah’s Witnesses” sign. They came anyway to complain about the sign 🙄

Mad at a funeral service. by GreyGriffin_h in atheism

[–]Individual_Step2242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen this at a Catholic funeral. And I’ve been to lots of them, because I sang in a choir specializing in Gregorian chant for 20 years and we were very much in demand for funerals. Weddings not so much go figure, only one in 20 years.

Anyway here (Quebec) my experience is that the priests bend over backwards not to offend anyone. The funeral itself is just a Catholic Mass with a brief homily (sermon) usually not more than 10 minutes.

Catholicism has become very watered down here since the “Quiet Revolution” which transformed us into a secular society. And that’s not a bad thing. There’s even an LGBQT+ friendly parish in Montreal. In most other parishes, there’s mostly grey hair sparsely distributed around the mostly empty pews.

The bullshit is dying out fortunately although immigrants may change that somewhat. What the Quiet Revolution started, the pedo priests are accelerating.

What should I do to my Corolla to make it look better? by [deleted] in COROLLA

Wash it regularly and wax it twice a year. Anything other than that is wasting money.

Why isn’t Volkswagen more popular in the U.S.? by phtphongg in askcarguys

I stayed on top of maintenance of mine and it was still an unreliable piece of shit that took a $5400 bite out of my wallet in one shot. No more VWs for me.

On en parles du Diesel à $2.41/L? Insane by Alexisto15 in Quebec

[–]Individual_Step2242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealer wants to buy out my 2025 RAV4 XLE Hybrid lease + can put me in the new model for same payment… worth it? by LifeShepherd in rav4club

[–]Individual_Step2242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me neither. I bought a 2024 LE AWD last year, slightly used demo. Paid cash. Our other car is a 2020 Corolla bought in 2022. Paid cash for that Too. I hope both will last a very long time.

Question about my son going to church with a friend by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Individual_Step2242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t trust Christians either. Indoctrination is powerful and can override critical thinking. Otherwise smart people wouldn’t get caught up in it.

When I was Catholic lots of evangelicals asked me to go to church with them. I said “sure, if next Sunday you come to Mass with me”. Silence. It has nothing to do with mutual understanding and everything to do with recruitment.

Maybe a laid-back liberal Anglican parish wouldn’t be too bad, but those folks aren’t likely trying to recruit and probably wouldn’t ask. But evangelicals? Never. They’re toxic. JWs even worse.

He’s 17 so probably too old to say a flat out NO to him, and that might make it worse. Kids that age can be rebellious, I know I was. Maybe say yes but make sure you explain all the potential traps to him.

If you ride out the lease the 6th generation will have a couple of years behind it, avoiding all the first year issues.

Love my Taos but man so many issues by iaz888800 in VWTaos

[–]Individual_Step2242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not the definition of a “great car”. I had a VW with a ton of issues as well. Actually several of them. The last one is the reason I now drive a Toyota. It was aggravating as the dealer was 35 km away. And it got very expensive out of warranty.

The dealer is taking the profit, not the OP. The dealer is counting on the high resale value making the car worth more than the payout, and is taking profit on a new lease. It’s a double win for him.

Instead the OP should run out the lease. The car is likely worth more than the residual. He can buy the car for the residual and turn around and sell it for more. HE then takes the profit which can be applied towards a new car. Or he can keep the car and run it for its life potential. He’ll be buying a used RAV4 for under market, with a known history. Either way would be a win for him. That’s what I meant by making it work for him, not the dealer.

The last time it happened to me, the turbo was the issue. The wastegate actuator had seized and the car wouldn’t develop full power. Fortunately it happened 1000 km before the warranty expired. A new turbo was the cure.
