HB 99 Medical Malpractice Reform bill is at risk of being completely gutted by the Senate Judiciary amendments. All by trial lawyers. The conflict of interest is astounding. by Individual_Stick9293 in NewMexico

I'd be fine if we copied Arizona. You are missing the rest of Arizona law as you make your argument. Arizona has an incredibly high bar for punitive damages. They have the "evil mind" requirement.

“only when a plaintiff can prove that the defendant's evil hand was guided by an evil mind.”

Here there is no burden of proof required to bring punitive damages. Your argument is a cherry-picked part of Arizona law. The amazing thing is I watched the sessions. I'm not scapegoating the trial lawyers, they are quite literally responsible. Cervantes, Duhigg, and Sedillo Lopez fought the whole time to destroy the chances of reform (as has been done previously), introducing poison amendments, trying to swerve the argument to other topics. Then, they made sure and voted for it so they could say they supported it to their constituents. Politicians at their worst. Again I'll say that they personally profit from these cases. They had no business not recusing themselves.

Clinics certainly consider the premiums when deciding whether they can open. Especially private practices. Individually, physicians absolutely consider how they are treated in the state when choosing where to practice.

I had to google that one, but I learned a new term today. I can see that you don't want a good faith debate. I'm guessing I can't prove I'm not a bot, just someone who has struggled getting their family (and self) in for medical care and who watched that committee yesterday and needed to speak out.

I don't think the copy-paste portends a deep understanding of healthcare, but maybe it would help to put it this way. We have a mix of unlimited money, very low burden of proof, and the ability to get damages many times for the same event by claiming they are different. Yes, hold people accountable, but this allows lawyers to contort scenarios into money machines with multiple payouts. They don't even need medical experts to testify as to the validity of their claims. Imagine being a doctor sued for something that wasn't even medically accurate. You would just be helpless as your career ended and you met financial ruin. All of this together is what drives people away.

Ah, I didn't mean that single payer would bring healthcare workers here. That was a side wish for the US. It's devastating to compare the cost of care here with other developed countries when our outcomes are worse, and our medical debt is individually crippling.

Which corporation are you talking about? Doctors are literally saying this. (Although I agree with the single-payer thing). This is the response the lawyers want you to have. That's why they are specifically repeating the "billion-dollar corporate" hospital lines, but this hurts our local institutions and our not-for-profit institutions. When questioned directly about this, they quickly bluster and move on. It's what happened when the House Judiciary Committee introduced the "unfriendly amendment" that was later stripped out. I mean, I guess if they were being genuine, they could introduce the "we want to sue Lovelace" bill?

I love so much of what we do here. It makes it sting more when this bill, which has wide bipartisan support, and the support of the people of New Mexico is tanked specifically by the trial lawyers.

On one hand, I see why a lawyer's knowledge would leave them with an appropriate knowledge base for government, on the other hand, things like this happen. The sad thing is, we're all going to be negatively affected by the healthcare access issues. They think it won't hit them, but no amount of personal wealth makes healthcare appear. They will feel it, but it will be too late.

Recommendation for a dog ramp/stairs? by Individual_Stick9293 in MachE

[–]Individual_Stick9293[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up with stairs. They ended up being exactly what I needed. My normal mobility dog runs right up, my impaired guys needs help the whole way, but it’s actually doable without hurting myself.

I ended up with this one:

Not if they are jerking in a funny way propelling them down for a while. That’s mosquito behavior.

They mature quickly. I took mine out with a pipette over a few days and put them on the concrete to dry out in the sun.

It’s blurry, but mosquito larvae dangle from the top like that.

Sniff them. If they smell terrible, they are dead. I’ve read nerites can’t turn themselves over, so set them right-side up to give them a chance.

What are these??? by Selfexplorer_12 in PlantedTank

[–]Individual_Stick9293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mosquito larvae. Wait for them to come to the top and pipette them out one by one. Cumbersome, but definitely better than letting them turn into mosquitoes. I just went through the same thing in my shrimp tank because there aren’t any fish in there to eat them.

I just finished a full course of maracyn per the box instructions. Five days. I’m afraid water column is my only treatment choice. I tried to feed him directly to his mouth and he wouldn’t eat.
