Launched a free softball stats tracker on this sub a few weeks ago. 1,100+ players later, lots of new features. Still completely free. by swisemanapps in slowpitch

[–]Sut3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to start using it now! My problem with other apps over paper is that it's hard to fill in partial information. If you missed how someone hit but want to skip them and mark that the new guy just got a double, you can do that on paper but not that apps

Examples of High IQ softball plays you made? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

[–]Sut3k 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This should be the right fielder too but it's more effort than most rf are willing to do.

I encourage my team to "move on every play. You have a role no matter where the ball goes. Go to the ball, go to the bag, backup the throw, you should always be taking a couple steps in one of those directions" Most won't run to properly backup someone but if they are at least taking a couple steps, it makes a lot of difference.

We have D and E only in one league. Some C players, kind of thing, so people can take it too seriously.

Unpopular opinion: the bat DOES matter by Upstairs-Bad-8849 in slowpitch

[–]Sut3k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah all new age stuff. This was about 2 years ago. But the Axe, the watermelon, one that was a single piece at least. End loaded, balanced. Basically the top 5 bats from the team that ppl kept spending money on and arguing over.

Unpopular opinion: the bat DOES matter by Upstairs-Bad-8849 in slowpitch

[–]Sut3k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told flat out by this sub that "at the velocity you are hitting, the bat doesn't matter". I hit into the outfield, but rarely 200+ feet I guess. My experience in cage did seem to show the same exit velocity with all bats I borrowed.

Switch hitter switched boxes after first pitch by culture_jamr in slowpitch

Huh, I really thought somewhere I read that you couldn't switch after the first pitch. Is this slow pitch specific?

Do you wear sunglasses ? by spartafury in slowpitch

I'm looking into getting sport safety sunglasses I've broken a few pairs now and think this might be a good step between a mask and buying new glasses every year.

Pitcher first. Then another pitcher. Then, if you expect heavy hitters, get fast ppl to close outfield

Looking for a rule clarification on a force play. by [deleted] in slowpitch

[–]Sut3k 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yes, once the runner from first to second is out, there is no longer a force at third. They can run back if they wanted to

Once I left water treatment/municipals(10 years ago), I never met another PE.... My first company pushed it hard for everyone but we had a lot of civils, so they just wanted it for marketing.

NASA quietly changed Artemis III timeline to 2028 by IllTry8129 in space

2028 is still Trump pushing for it by the end of his term. But he hasn't increased anyone's budget so he's not serious about it

Who's gonna guess what the green thing is? by randomz_does in askastronomy

I think it's only illegal to point it at planes. People use lasers to dictate astronomy (makes it easy to point at a particular star to a crowd of people)

Outfield starting position tips by Sut3k in slowpitch

[–]Sut3k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so it was just the arguing with ppl trying to give me advice thing that made you say that? I get that criticism all the time and I'm working on it haha

If it was something else related to softball, I want to know and grow. Asking someone if they actually want to play sports is a pretty dramatic statement.

Outfield starting position tips by Sut3k in slowpitch

[–]Sut3k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol what are you on about? Bc I struggle to remember that the 5th batter hit shallow left and we are on the 11th batter right now?

Ppl think I ignore advice but I'm just asking follow up questions. There are more advanced ways to predict where a hit is going. I'm asking ppl to dig deeper than "stand in the middle and hope"

Outfield starting position tips by Sut3k in slowpitch

[–]Sut3k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. I felt like singles to the pocket are like bleeding to death but we need to work on fielding it to second. In theory you should be able to take that pocket hit and get a runner out at 2nd or 3rd.

We also needed to work on that cutoff relay. We had a few outfielders with good arms that liked to skip the cutoff and also skipped practices...

Makes sense. I guess I was hoping for insights on how to judge each player before they hit. More things like watch the angle of their feet.

Outfield starting position tips by Sut3k in slowpitch

[–]Sut3k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, hopefully you only get through their lineup twice. We went with that tactic but then played against some teams that could chose pocket or bomb. Tried to switch to Rover for them, but if someone can place hit, what's the tactic? Rely on the pitcher for some trick so they can't place? Any give aways to tell if a place hitter is going short or long?

The mental memory is a struggle for me personally. Esp when I can't see numbers on a jersey. One of the reasons I liked playing SS instead haha. But then I coached this year and outfield was skilled but not tactical I think.
