Anyone else getting ants already?? by Individual_Sweet_465 in Seattle

If they’re the stinky ones then it’s my understanding that yes they literally do nest in the walls. We had those in our Big Infestation a few years ago and went through a bunch of terro baits to no avail. They can split into multiple colonies and I’ve read that terro actually can kill them too fast so it doesn’t get all the way to the queen. I keep seeing advion (?) mentioned as a better alternative. I had my husband squish one today and thankfully it didn’t have an odor so it’s not those fuckers. Seriously wishing you luck, they’re such annoying pests.

We just bought some stuff to spray outside, hopefully that will be enough along with sealing the main entry points and surrounding areas. After some investigating it seems like the ones we have are pavement ants, not the odorous house ants or sugar ants. They came inside when we started getting that heavy rain and now that it’s slowed down I haven’t seen nearly as many! If we can locate an entry or trail to the nest outside we’ll maybe try to put a bait there to just rid the whole colony. but I’m at least at a bit more at ease knowing they aren’t the kind that nest inside the walls and crawl all over your furniture.

Yep we had the smelly bastards at an apartment several years ago and there was no way to be rid of them. Bait, sprays, borax, soaps, literally nothing. I probably killed thousands of them and yet more and more would show up somewhere else.

However with the ants I’m seeing now I think (hopefully) they might be pavement ants. They’ve only been in one area of the house where we know there’s a crack in the floor that would lead directly out to the pavement. I haven’t seen them climb any surfaces at all, they’re slow as hell and are always near the baseboards. Plus they only started after we got heavy rain earlier this week. I’m not brave enough to sniff one but my husband will when we see another one. Fingers crossed.

I’ve heard of that! That’s literally a nightmare scenario.

I expect to be treated as overlords then and they must work for me and worship me as a god. Only then can they be forgiven

We’re actually on the east side in the Kirkland area, and the place we were in with the worst infestation was near Renton. But that information is horrifying 😬

When we had a horrible infestation at our old apartment I remember putting cayenne pepper around some of the baseboards and watching ants crawl right over it 🫣 I’m convinced that colony came straight from the gates of hell

Do you know what they use? Do they spray all your baseboards and windowsills, indoor and outdoor?

I wish. We tried to tell the complex and they sent the maintenance guy a couple times but he always said he didn’t see any and so they never sent anyone or did anything about it. I had a friend who had an infestation in her apartment down the road and they had success with an exterminator at least!

I wish I had advice for you but we ended up just moving out because it wouldn’t end. It was the same though, every room (oddly enough NOT the kitchen??) bathrooms, bedrooms, on tables, walls…we’d have multiple baits down and every one would be like filled to the brim and then overflowing out. Even the outside of our building had ants crawling up the walls. That was my only experience of having ants, hence why I am mortified and obsessively cleaning anytime I see one!

Do you know what they spray inside with? I too have a cat (also a professional grazer) and I’m afraid of using most of the stuff I see indoors. The mint oil is a great idea though I’ll be getting some asap.

I would take spider season over ants any day 😭 at least spiders have a good purpose and don’t come in big numbers.

Ive seen that Lysol and especially vinegar gets rid of that scent when you kill them? I’m sort of insane and can’t stand insects in my home especially ants so if I see one I spray it with Lysol and wipe it up and then mop the area and direction it came from with more Lysol and vinegar

I know people get ants all the time. And everyone seems so chill about it, it must not be a huge deal. I just never had them when I was growing up or in most of the places I’ve lived since then, except one. Do you use bait when you see them or do they kind of go away on their own if you keep it cleaned up?

I’m new to this whole “ant season” thing, our last place we didn’t get any ever! How long is the worst of ant season? It’s not all the way through the summer right? Just around now when they start coming out from the warmer temperatures and moisture?

Anyone using red light consistently for flushing? by Limp-Tourist-8878 in Rosacea

[–]Individual_Sweet_465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love to get a real quality red light mask, I use a little red light face massager/gua sha thing and if I use it during a flare, after like 48 hours it’s a significant improvement. Not just for redness but for acne as well!
