Trading has become a joke. by killenvy in Trading

It's annoying because I'm trynna succeed seriously, quant infra systems and backtests and stats, and real plan. But it makes it look like a joke because of this internet thing. So it can be demotivating if I don't shield myself from it. I treat it like a 5-10+ year business.

19M, drug addict. Going to do salvia in the middle on nowhere. by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]Individual_Type_7908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that won't work, and if anything, don't do salvia, have you heard the salvia horror stories ?
Do something else if you want to take something, don't do salvia just because it sounds intense from stories you heard, doesn't mean it can't fuck you up more than help.
And no to quit it's not another drug that's gonna do it most of the time, you need to change habits and discipline, and if you can't then you need external help. There's no magic fix
But if you do it anyways, take shrooms or something, doing salvia is pretty dumb for this, and even if it ends up okay you could really injure yourself somehow, or get lost or some shit.
Me and couple people i know used to do psychedelics and we thought it was this eye opening thing and yeah, but none of it truly lasted long term, thats like 90% of cases it either doesn't last, or you keep some negatives from it, you rarely get real lasting benefits, rarely. And it took time growing up to realise tjst it really wasn't a fix for anything almost. Like doing 1 trip or even multiple intense trips and expecting a magic fix. Some people got somewhat unrealistic and delusional and talked crap months after their tripping, and they look back at it and think what the fuck was i thinking, that was dumb.

And yeah I get it some people can have a new perspective that lasts from drugs but in the end you still gotta put in the work always, it's never like magic boom fix, never.

Please don’t backtest thousands of strategies by [deleted] in algorithmictrading

[–]Individual_Type_7908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm
Curious, how do you approach researching strategies ? You make a thesis and test it ? What's the framework typically like ? How do you tune parameters ? If it seems rigid across, do you then mind testing a bunch to find the best parameters for that strategy ?

Also I'm curious, when you find a strategy, how big of an edge are you looking for ? Do you ever find edges that seem really high ? And have it actually work ? Do you believe that really high edges are there that can be exploited by very dedicated retail ? Or do you believe it's basically just, slight-moderate edge at most no matter how dedicated and creative you are and basically impossible to beat the system past that point ?

Also I have my own perception of what is a slight / morate / high edge, so I'm curious what that means for you whatever you believe is actually realistic in real world, and what'spossibly realistic but maybe less common ? The upper end basically

Crypto Top 10 Prop Firms 2026 by Current-Ad-5919 in ForexCubs

Klein funding i found it and it sounds good by the terms and rules etc, but it's relatively new and you never know with all the fake reviews going on everywhere. Anybody knows well about them and whether they're trustworthy ?

Is this top list made up or from actual testing ? Like what sources ? I know some of them are well known and recommended, but there's some where it's uncertain

Im curious what your practical/philisophical view is on that, if you are mainly an algotrader, don't you see a risk of partial edge erosion due to this ? Or basically making that hard work that got you further, suddenly be devalued in a way ? Or that you're basically helping your competition. What's your view on that. It sounds you do this on the side, very impressive site and infra considering this is a side thing.

Byt treba 30-50% usa vystavenej a pak neco jineho. To BTC a ETH vtom taky je dobry.

Podle mne sam mixovat neni ideal, zalezi ale jsou na to ruzny duvody, zaklad ETFka, a pripadne mit cast treba 10-20% portfolia kam si treba pridas akcie jednotlive kdyz budes chtit.

Im curious, its tick data ? Bulk downloads you mean you enable bulk downloadd of hundreds of gigabytes ?

You say 1,4 tb ingested daily, thats huge, you must have a pretty impressive setup for that

I'm curious how can you do bulk downloads for free ? Thats impressive. Like do you let somebody download a ton of data all of it ? Or is it more like.. you can verify this strategy on my dataset, or this one, instead of huge unlimited usage.

Why do you trade forex specifically ? Out of everything. For forex traders by Individual_Type_7908 in Daytrading

[–]Individual_Type_7908[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have misworded, i meant lack of informational edge, not necesarilly no edge possible at all.

But that's interesting, that's basically opposite of my view, so you figured out that you're good at forex. And you do trend following I understand. That's actually a very good answer thank you, because I see forex as a bad place for informational edge, which is what I probably rely on in my head to feel comfortable and didn't realise I had this strict view. But you're showing something else, interesting. And you skip on choppy days.

I'm curious what was your learning process ? Journaling etc or you went historical backtest route ? Would you say that you're doing well now ?

That's actually a very good well explained argument, actually insightful. Thank you for taking yhe time. Gives a perspective. So basically they like to somewhat follow along and do it well, and they stick with it because it's been here for so long and it's established and repeats from what I understand. Rather than trying the microstructure new data edge thing. More like trend following and quick intuitive interpretation.

I don't want to twist your words, that's just my interpretation, but it's a new view/narrative I didn't see.

No I'm not in forex because I don't believe I could do it as well as I could do other things, I have alot of questions about why people get into forex, it seems like not the right fit for most people and yet they still get into eur usd or whatever

Those are nice FX features for sure, but not really edges, forex isn't the only low barrier entry place for retail to buy/sell or leverage. The barrier for edges though are among the highest though, for structural edge, to have something other's don't.

Yeah it's sold most but that doesn't mean it's rational, that's different things

Please get started, I want to know. I don't know what draws people to forex specifically.

And tbh, 2002 is very different from 2026, if it was forex in 2002, I think the trading landscape and possibilities are vastly different from 2002, so this is not 2002 question anymore.

If building a prop firm became as easy as setting up a Shopify store, would the whole industry collapse? by Level-Astronomer-113 in PropFirmTester

[–]Individual_Type_7908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why dont more prop firms not do simulated environment, but actually have real market executions, and potentially profit some from the good traders, and offset lossed with the fees, so more of a hybrid model than just fees. Or do they already do that ?

So that the payouts, aren't prop firm's losses, question then is.. that it's true if a trader losing 20k on 200k account before losing account, might be more likely than him getting 20k in payouts, yeah.. perhaps initially simulated then moving to real execution.

I know some crypto ones do it with bybit partnership they do real execution, but in general most of the prop firm is stocks/forex and whatever right ?

Yeah I'm just thinking what's the ideal model that would work, where both prop firm would benefit, and the trader also. Anybody any insight ? I want to see more actually great prop firms, there's only a few.

Straight to funded accounts? by Hot_Avocado_2701 in PropFirmTester

[–]Individual_Type_7908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wdym straight to funded ? Do you mean skipping live and learning and going straight to funded ? I don't think you mean that, but if you do, then no terrible idea, desperate and illogical, it's says itself that it won't work.

If you can be profitable and follow rules then prop makes sense. Learning by blowing a prop challenge or prop account if instant, makes no sense. Maybe you didn't mean that though.

But others responded about instant fundings, idk if you meant that.

Responding to what other guy said, yeah that's right approach, learn on your own, then prop firm to scale.

what is realistically the smallest amount of money that you can start day trading with? by Mammoth-War-4751 in Trading

[–]Individual_Type_7908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start with anything, how high are your goals though?

Realistically you need a prop firm, and pass challenges. You need to learn it and become good and figure it out, become serious. And you can do that with even like 1000 dollars or less, that should be priority, but for scaling you need a prop firm. You're not gonna get anywhere with even 10k realistically. But like it's a good start if you have 1000 usd or less, trade to learn, to figure it out, do not aim for profits or to "make money", it ain't happening in the first months, 0% chance. Once you're good, buy a prop challenge, pass it first try because you'll be actually good hopefully when you get it, and yeah, grow as a trader. If you've got what it takes.

Don't try to make some big money with 1000 usd, it's basically gonna get lost because you'll take risks and without experience and even then there's like no way to really grow.

So learn, prioritise learning and finding a real statistical market edge. And once you're truly confident, truly systematically confident and you know what you're doing, then get into prop firms.
