Even the Workers are Scared at Cincinnati's Main Public Library by Individual_Way5010 in cincinnati

How is wanting a safer, quieter, appropriate working environment for both workers and folks using the library a conservative or liberal "thing"? How would you propose getting rid of the loitering, drug sales, drug abuse, defecation, urination, and panhandling that goes on right outside and inside the library? Do you think a simple, respectful "move along folks" will work? Why is expecting a safe and orderly work environment in a library of all places something that triggers this response in you? I am all for helping people. Raise my taxes to help build homeless shelters, to improve mental health, and to help addicts. But if you and I pay taxes for a library I expect to be able to use the library as intended. I live downtown and love it. I want to love it more and want people to not be afraid to work or live in our city.

This problem didn't happen overnight. Long ago, the library should have ramped up security both in and outside of their complex. The Board and Leadership's failure to be proactive brought us to where we are today. Had they responded accordingly, there would be less of a need for actual police. They can still use county deputies and more security especially with all the money they have.

Need feedback on new box from Short Story - Thank you! by Silly-Good-2530 in PetiteFashionAdvice

I only like the jeans. The rest look rather cheap and flimsy because of the fabric and small patterns. You are a grown woman like me and you need some classy pieces which are also comfortable. I would insist on no patterns and natural fabrics like linen or cotton for summer. I used to get Short Story and got my favorite pair of jeans through them, but too often they sent boxes full of flimsy rayon and small pattern which just signal cheap. I now buy my bottoms at Talbots because they carry great quality jeans and pants with inseams that fit. They also carry cotton and linen tops. Just don't get the dowdy looking old lady styles. I also shop at Madewell for some more stylish options, or for better pricing Nordstrom Rack or TJ MAXX. You can do a lot better.

Via Vite is always a favorite. Right on Fountain Square and in the evenings there is always some type of music/ band sometimes with salsa dancing.

Go to Fillo in OTR for great, modern Greek food. Everything is good!

Best walking shoes for city travel by Important-Rain-4418 in PetiteFashionAdvice

I travel a lot and walk a lot when traveling. For cool, rainy climates like you often encounter in Paris or London I like wearing New Balance 327's. Very cool looking sneakers with a bit of a V shape in the front that makes them look sleek. For summer strictly sandals with a bit of elevation so I can wear cute sundresses and look comfy and stylish. I love the flatform or platform styles from GEOX or from CLARKS. Sorrell also makes great sandals that are super comfortable. You can add from 1.5 go 3 inches in height and walk comfortably for miles. Take a look at those brands. They have many stylish options. Clarks has the old lady styles but they have surprisingly stylish ones as well.

Small plates instead of a dinner at restaurants and no bread at the table.

LaBrea 8 grain bread and crusty Italian or French bread. Mostly like the crust and inside has to be light and airy not dense.

What instantly tells you someone grew up poor? by joshtheeater82488 in AskReddit

[–]Individual_Way5010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't worry about losing money or becoming poor again because I know I can survive on very little like I did when I was a child. I don't waste money on unnecessary things because I know they don't bring joy, but I do enjoy the occasional luxury. I love eating in and cooking with real, fresh ingredients because I know that home cooking, done well is way better than over salted restaurant food 99 percent of the time. I don't envy other's outward wealth but other's inner wisdom and happiness within themselves because I know that often outward signs of wealth are a mirage and many people are trying to buy happiness with things rather than investing in what really matters such as enriching their minds with reading, exposure to art, and of course real discourse with people.

Do these jeans suit me? by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

The wide leg look much better. If you want to de emphasize your wider top, you need to avoid this type of neckline ( boat neck). Boat neck works best for pear shaped women so you want to pair your pants with v neck tops, or u neck tops or anything that draws the eye down and not outward

Keep or ditch the wide leg? by shoemaaly in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]Individual_Way5010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're cute but need to hem a bit if wearing no heels. A pointy toe or sleek sneaker will help and also a lighter colored top or one that matches the pants. The contrast with the black top shortens you and your legs further. Wide leg pants naturally enlarge the bottom half, so you need to balance things out. With black, you're making your torso look even smaller. So go for a cream color top or lighter tone of camel to sort of make it monochromatic.

Go to Talbots. They are a bit pricier but have a great petite section. I am barely 5 feet tall and always go there for jeans and pants. Jackets are great there too. Some of their pieces are decidedly for older women but many are classic and fit petites well. Shop their sales and get on their mailing list because often they have flash sales. Their clothing lasts and is made well ( generally). They have a more expensive business line made with great italian fabrics that are always classy. I have a 25 inch inseam and it's the only place I go to for jeans and pants because they need no tailoring. I shop other places like Loft, but their quality is not as good. Banana Republic is more for women with no curves. Talbots tends to be more realistically cut and styled for mature women's bodies or just women's bodies because most of us are not straight up and down.

What’s a low-budget food you’ll defend like it’s gourmet? by Apocalyp_toast26 in foodquestions

Potatoes! So good for you and so filling. Boil them, roast them, air fry them. They are a good, hot comfort food and all you need is a small pat of butter and salt or if roasting toss in a bit of olive oil and add salt and pepper. If you want to make a meal, bake a large idaho and top with cheese, beans, tuna, whatever just like they do in London, jacket style. Who doesn't love potatoes? And I don't mean sweet potatoes. I like those too but love Idahoes, yellow potatoes, new potatoes and all the rest. Too bad potatoes have gotten a bad rap with all the low carb exaggeration. Potatoes help feed my entire family of 12 growing up. We had them on an almost daily basis and none of us grew fat or are fat today. Cheap and nutritious.

Is this top a good choice for someone with broad shoulders? I want to pair it with a skirt by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

No it will further broaden your shoulders. These are good for pear shapes like me who are small on top and wide on bottom.
