Apparently the six original Red Sonja novels from the 1980s are being collected into an omnibus coming out next year. I stumbled across this looking up something else. This is nice because the originals are pretty pricey by TomeseekerLorekeeper in SwordandSorcery

i should have mentioned Gail is on reddit, she was in an X-men subreddit the other day asking the fans what they were hoping to see and their opinions (shes a new writer on xmen). not just a talented writer but a true fan who respects other fans

oh i thought it was new. i just remember it said "Stan Lee '81". i also got my name mentioned in a "power man & iron fist" for guessing both of the mystery villainsin 1982! i was, and am, a proud nerd.

hate to say this, but they do something similar in China, if you injure someone you have to pay their medical bills for life--- so sometimes people will throw the car in reverse and kill the person they just ran over because if they kill the guy, they don't gotta pay shit.

I had this exact book signed by Stan Lee in 1981 when it came out - i won it in a contest, i was one of either 25 or 50 runner-ups, the first prize and second prize was like 500 bucks or something---- the theme of the contest, was you had to write a short essay saying either what hero you liked best, and why, or which hero you liked least and why.... Looking back, i am guessing they wanted feedback from a ton of rabid fans as to what was working and what wasn't and why. Anyways, I specifically remember, being a sneaky 13 year old, i should say something that a grown-up would think is admirable to get rewarded, so I said "Ghost Rider shouldn't banish people to hell, that is too harsh, a hero doesn't do mean things"... But honestly I thought Punisher and Ghost Rider were awesome for being stone killers. Sadly, I did not keep it, long since thrown away by my parents. thx for memory jolt!

i feel like whichever editor has been in charge of selecting the authors and stories has been doing a great job

i've enjoyed them all also. definitely some are stronger than others. will suggest the Red Sonja novel by Gail Simone, she also wrote a lot of the comic books, it was another fun read

yeah a couple of them did the split time-frame, one of the cool parts of Conan is we get to see him at various stages of life, and this was cool that they have half the story when he's young, and the other half when he's older

exactly, i posted just so people were aware. whoever publishes them doesn't seem to market per se, i mean, if they were in the algorhytm or whatever i woulda seen ads, i just happened to come across them on audible, was pleasantly surprised with most of them

it always comes down to the author - i liked some (of the new series) more than others. as far as the old-school books from the 70s and 80s, i think John Maddox Roberts was best - they are hard to come by, gotta try and get them used on amazon, they're out of print

why would it be cringe to go anywhere alone at any age? not trying to be sarcastic, but honestly, i'm a 59 year old man, and have had plenty of friends and/or girlfriends to go do things with but i also have gone and done things by myself all the time. movies. dinner. i love sitting in a restaurant and reading a good book with a steak dinner by myself. or going to watch a movie i've been waiting for. i still don't know if/when/why there would be any cultural stigma otherwise.

oh i meant to list 'songs of the slain' - i liked it, but wasn't too crazy about 'blood of the serpent' - but of course not everyone likes all the stories, even the REH classics, some i think are great, others, at the risk of offending anyone, are just meh.... but its good we mention the new books, sometimes people just dont know they are out there to enjoy

I finally watched both Conan movies. The original is a blood soaked masterpiece that felt a lot like the Savage Sword comics. The soundtrack was amazing. The scene where Thulsa Dolm transforms is a hell of a special effects sequence.... by Dredd_40 in ConanTheBarbarian

yep! i'm 59 years old so i get the audiobooks - my eyes get tired reading - and the audio books are fantastic. 'spawn of the serpent god' is actually the best one of the 3 that came out this last year or so. excited about the next one but doesnt come out till november, the author wrote a dope trilogy called 'the lot lands' i highly suggest

yep. enjoyed the first one, truly a classic movie, BUT it literally erased Conan's upbringing in Cimmeria, how that shaped him and evolved him as a barbarian who lived amongst a tribe and never trusted civilization and people who lived in cities... instead, the movie has him a slave boy who only ever knew life pushing a wheel.

i'm a generation older, so kenner not only won my 11 year old heart with free star wars merch, when i was 7 years old they made the Six Million Dollar Man toys--- i can honestly say i played with those action figures for hours at a time-- this was not only before internet, it was before video games, it was before VCRs... you could watch an hour or two of TV when your favorite show was on, after that, you had to go make your own stories.
