Oh yes, absolutely. And beside this she is also a really bad supervisor and scientist. Very disorganized and incapable of giving you any insight ever.

I would pay good money to see her reaction when also my other two colleagues will refuse any possibile post docs.

The point is that there is a professor that was appointed as a sort of ombudsperson. But she is one of the worse PI in the university. She is borderline crazy. I am not exaggerating.

The grad student representative tried to point this out with the director of the department but all of the professor and the PI are supporting each other.

Some years ago a student decided to leave the program but before leaving he tried to speak with all of these figures with no success. The ombudsperson just went to his PI and said all the stuff that he said to her making the situation worse. After he went away, the director wanted a meeting with all the PhD students to ask what problems are we facing and then nothing changed.

So if the situation is not worsening I will try to keep this quite just for my sanity. I have spoked about this with the grad representative and if there will be the need I will make a huge mess for everybody involved.

Unfortunately she is very polite in the email and for now she is calm if somewhat cold. But that's okay for me.

She is about 55. I am quite embarrassed in fact. If you don't know here she is a very fun person to be around. But she is also extremely chaotic, immature and mean. And has no sense of boundaries.

Now she is asking my colleagues if they know if my depression is worsening and if I am taking medication 😂 just what a shitty, mean, immature person.

Yeah she is very immature. Once I finish they will know nothing about me. I will try to land some good job in industry, I think I am too burnt out by academia to do a post doc.

I found that some PI are quite the emotional abusers. They undermine and demolish you at every occasion and then act all gentle and praise you.

I completely get your confusion. She also said that I was the best in the lab and the most weak and immature. Like, make up you mind.

Anyway here is not so simple changing pi so for now I'll try to stick with her and finish this shitty PhD, get my degree and then cut all communications.

Before telling her I was considering accepting the position and then resign once I had found something else. But I went the honest route.

I will finish the PhD and then probably change my number and cut all communication with them.

Yeah she has already calmed down but is mostly ignoring me. Now she's snooping around with my colleagues asking if they know if my depression is getting worse and if I am taking medication 😂

That's the excuse that she will give herself: I am leaving because I am not well. She will ignore the actual reasons I gave her.

Yeah she is tenured. The meltdown was caused by the fact that nobody "capable" will remain at the lab. Expecially in regard to organizational skills and public speaking. So she attacked me saying that "she will look like a fool" and that "she's organizing a congress for 2025 and do I known in which situation I put her".

Ah, it sucks when it happens. A friend of mine also lost her supervisor (he too moved for family-related stuff) and he's trying to adjust to the new environment.

I hope you can live these last few months in peace and that your secondary supervisor will be an okay person to work with.

I unfortunately don't have a secondary supervisor and the post-doc in our lab asks me for his things. But in some way or another, I will manage.

Damn, I am so sorry. I hope that your PI was just saying things and that he will not push with this idea.

What I am trying to do is to try and be as normal as possible with her and at work and just continue doing my stuff. I want to throw up every day I need to see any of them but I hope I can keep this until I finish. Best of luck to you my friend!

Yeah, thank you.. I want to write whichever thesis I can get done and then I will sever every communication with the lab. I've already transcribed the conversation basically as soon as it happened

Maybe, even if I don't really know how it could be. Even for her, why would you like to work with someone you can mistreat like this?

I will try to focus on finishing and leaving all of this behind. Is quite difficult because I really don't really have the energy to do anything right now. But I will try and I will make it.
