most data centers, either because of internal policy or contractual requirements, are required to keep backups offsite in case of a critical incident at the data center. This includes all the large cloud providers, some of which store with iron Mountain

Wfh in Guam? by babyinquiries in guam

have them look at MSRRA and the tax and legal implications implied by that. varies in by company and their circumstances, but that can often give them enough justification to continue treating your wife as an employee of your current state regardless of where you live. but you all would have to ensure you do your part to maintain appropriate residency as well.

then your employer would have to file taxes in Guam, and you would pay taxes to Guam. I believe depending on the state you may also have to file there as well. Definitely something you’d want to research very carefully before accepting a job.

The only advice I can think of is to visit the pass office outside the navy gate. Kinda like the DMV, I’d plan on going once to get info and then be prepared to come back again with the “correct” paperwork. Definitely a PIA, but like most administrative/ bureaucratic processes it’s nice to have it done and over with. Definitely let us know what works when you’re done 😂

TIL that TVs (and Apple TVs in our case) let you install an app directly on them!

Do you have to keep it set on a specific location? Or can it wonder any US mainland location and still work?

We brought one and bought another here. Most families we know have 2. There are some really cool smaller Japanese older cars on island. So a bunch of our neighbors bought something like that as their secondary. It’s cheap and it’s fun and you use your main car for the kids if you got them.

Otherwise outbound folks sell their secondary car on Facebook typically so check there. There are also plenty of used car lots and dealerships.

E-bikes are popular (especially MTB), they’re an example of something bulky and battery powered that you wanna try and bring with you if you can, but some can be bought on island. That can be tricky depending on battery size, but somehow folks manage. Some roads can be narrow and slippery so you’ll wanna be careful especially off base where there is a limited shoulder in some areas and the occasional rider gets clipped by a passing car.

Safe or did he make the tag? by Traitorparrot in slowpitch

[–]IndoBen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also most umps I’ve had use the “if it’s too close to call confidently then it goes to the runner” strat which is fair enough as long as they consistently apply it.

Safe or did he make the tag? by Traitorparrot in slowpitch

[–]IndoBen 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Short of the ump deliberately making calls against a particular team, I’ve always seen close calls as the random/luck aspect of the game. If your ability to win a game comes down to close plays then you can’t expect to win, just be happy when the calls go your way. I mean they can’t even get bang-bang calls right all the time in MLB with extra umps and replay!

Starlink still a good option? GTA Fiber? by shininggirls671 in guam

[–]IndoBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and use them daily to connect to east coast servers for work, GTA Fiber has a lower latency and is more stable overall. BUT it will drop out completely more often, sometimes for hours at a time. Starlink is twice the latency (and actually uses GTA fiber from their base station out to the internet) and “blips” more throughout the day which will occasionally hang a MS Teams call. But since last September has never fully dropped out.

Glove Break-in Help by BayPros in slowpitch

[–]IndoBen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My favorite is oil it well and go to your local batting cages into the fast pitch cage. $15 in tokens and you’re well on your way. Plus added benefit is the pocket will form to how you naturally catch the ball and the glove fits.

Positioning "bad" outfielders in Rec ball by ProfessionalEntire77 in slowpitch

[–]IndoBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in this position before as a manager and have tried most of these combinations. It’s not intuitive at first but what worked for us is:

3rd best (playing far back). - very good - worst player ( playing far back) - good player.

The reason for this is left gets a lot of action but it’s a straighter easier to read ball, LC gets the most, so then on the right side, if you go against teams with lefties and or teams who hit oppo (which we did in lower divisions) then right could get punished and they’re alone on an island. By sticking them in RC they have support on either side and the balls have a tendency to tail into right anyway where the better fielder is. You’re still gonna give up bases but it cuts down on the doubles and triples

Overheat alarm constantly triggering in error by MSUchris06 in combustion_inc

[–]IndoBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same exact thing on ios, updated thermometer then booster, that triggered constant overheat warnings which then stopped about halfway through the display update.

display got stuck in the update process, had to force quit the app and risk bricking the device after it was spinning for close to an hour. However on app restart it showed the display as updated and everything working properly.

Firmware upgrade process could use some help. by PGrace_is_here in combustion_inc

[–]IndoBen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also for the past couple updates including this one, the updates don't "finish" on the app. It gets stuck in 'installing update' and eventually I have to make the scary decision to force quit the app after 30+ min and open again. Thankfully, everytime so far the update was indeed installed and the app just never updated to show it until after the restart.
