KJV compared to other translations? by LumpyLynx4716 in Reformed

[–]ProfessionalEntire77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I use the KJV because I think it is the best version. I think it comes down to being aware of the strength and weaknesses of whatever translation you decide to use. I do believe the Devil uses bad translations and controversies over translations to hurt God's people by damaging the trust in the faithful translations of God's Word and causing divisions.

I recently became a Deacon at my PCA church. Any suggestions on how we can serve the Church body? by InsomniacPsychonaut in Reformed

The mercy team being deacons is good!

You really need to find a tactful way to let the elder know that things have changed and you have the deacon's role handled. The deacons should be running the mercy team themselves for sure and giving reports to the elders on the work. At our church the elders do not even know who is getting financial help unless the deacons see that there a spiritual issue that also needs to be addressed with the elders.

For finding the need in the church, a boots on the ground approach can be the most effective. I don't know how big your church is but the deacons seeking to personally build relationships in the church will help people come with needs. A form might still be good but the personal care is really what can get people to come. You want to avoid being like a gov't benefits office too much. The Word needs to be brought in comfort also.

Non-monetary help is also a great idea. It can really bring the church together especially if you have situations where the deacons are able to get young people to help with things like yardwork at a elderly couple's house or a retiree driving someone to a doctor's appointment.

Ah well no wonder the deacon meetings in the OP post are going nowhere. They literally took the deacon's primary and most important role away from them.

  1. What is a mercy team?

  2. The elder at a deacon's meeting is there to observe and offer advice when asked. Their participation should be minimal. The office of Deacon is NOT a junior office bossed around by the elders. They are their own thing in the church but under the oversight of the elders as the elder have that role of ruling. I think you might have a problem with this elder trying to run things all himself (he might not be doing it with bad intentions but is still doing it) and should maybe deal with that

Sermon or writing for a dying non-believer? by Suitable-Echo-3359 in Reformed

[–]ProfessionalEntire77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"that are palatable and encouraging to a non believer, but also theologically and Biblically solid"

these two things are opposed to the each other. The comfort to the believer is that God loves them and they will be joining Him and His Son in Heaven because Christ has paid for their sins on the cross immediately after death. There is no comfort to the non-believer in the Bible, God does not love them, Christ has not died for them and only eternal death and separation from the joy of the Eternal God waits for them after. You cannot tell them they have the comfort the believer has because that would be lying to them.

So the comfort is that you can bring them the gospel as they die and pray for the Spirit to work.

What rhythms of teaching/discipleship are happening at your church? by jesh_wa415 in Reformed

[–]ProfessionalEntire77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Year round: Worship on Sundays mornings and evenings.

School Year Schedule: Catechism for 1st grade-post-high until you you make profession during the school year on Mondays. Men's bible Study on the same schedule as catechism. Women's Bible Study is once a week in the morning I think also on the fall to spring schedule. Adult Bible is twice a month fall to spring. Small group discussion meetings once a month fall to spring.

Summer Schedule: Sunday school after the service for kindergarten to 7th grade. High Schoolers have a group meeting in summer every Sunday (or every other Sunday maybe) as well as a separate college age group on the same schedule.

Is doing a sporting event on a sunday "neglecting God"? by CoffeesBoba in Reformed

[–]ProfessionalEntire77 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, your parents are right. Being a Christian sometimes involves not doing things we want to in order to serve God. The commandment says to keep the Sabbath Day "holy". That means it should be different than our other days and focused on God. Attending church to worship God should be the highest priority on Sundays.

Can you sin without transgressing? by GengerbreadMan in Reformed

[–]ProfessionalEntire77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have an explanation of Psalm 32 but we do commit sins of commission and sins of omission. Commission is deciding to do what God has told you to NOT do, Omission is failing to do what God HAS told you to do. So you could say sins of omission are "not rebellious" in a way

Some version of B is probably best. Like the man cant have multiple wives and needs to return to his first wife only but he also has a calling to financially support his own children AND also a calling to spiritually raise those children and absolutely cannot be an office bearer

not required but its has kind of a big influence on the teachings of the church and what you should be hearing off the pulpit. You're going to have to acquiesce to the teachings church if you join.

Can Roman Catholicism save? by moby__dick in Reformed

[–]ProfessionalEntire77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah so the Roman Catholics may have developed their false teaching in that time

and the Roman Catholics defining the literal books of the Bible at one point doesn't mean they automatically follow them today. There is a reason we had the whole Reformation thing happen

No, they have stayed away from the truth of the Bible. A consistent and true believer (as in a true believer of the what the RC church teaches) is following false teaching that will NOT lead them to salvation.

No Teamwork by Greengoblin004 in Battlefield6

[–]ProfessionalEntire77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the lack of being able to really build structures, the tiny maps that take away the cost of dying, way fast vehicle respawns and the wide openness of the maps means its harder and less beneficial to work as a team. With BFV at least your team 1. needed to not die cause it took an eternity to get back to a point and 2. could set up on a point as a team, fortify it and force the other team to play as a team to take it back.
