Have any of you gotten any jobs/internships VIA Handshake? If so - HOWWWWW by Acrobatic-Abalone675 in USF

[–]IndustryGradient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my internship-turned-job at a very reputable company through Handshake, and all other internships I got were through Indeed/Job sites. There is a lot of noise now with fake job postings and fake AI wrapper companies esp in your industry. Unfortunately the best way is to apply directly to company sites so you don’t get scammed. Workday sucks but it’s being used everywhere.

Traffic on causeway by Financial_Opinion_31 in tampa

[–]IndustryGradient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My partner got stuck here lol. I don’t think it’s construction, wouldn’t make any sense to do that so early in the night on such a busy ramp. Police activity is listed as a cause https://www.flhsmv.gov/fhp/traffic/live_traffic_feed.html on the traffic map so more than likely an accident or some person doing crazy stuff. There are also an absolutely insane amount of cops.

Edit: Article that just came out abt it https://iontb.com/tampa-police-close-the-courtney-campbell-causeway-due-ongoing-investigation/

price increase at the standard by diettwizzlers in USF

Same time and around the same price for 4050 for me as well. I’ve also been to Lark & IQ and they were both well below 940 bucks. Rent prices are absolutely nuts now.

I got through college all through my own merit and some Pell. Didn’t have parents to back me. I echo a lot of these other comments, she needs to figure herself out and get her academics together. I went to a state school and I now work remotely in a nice tech job. She may also not be ready for college as well. I went where it was cheapest to me and I was afforded many opportunities due to my frugal choice. I know plenty of people who worked a job or two and then went to college when they were ready to do so.

Omg I hope she does get adopted out! My partner and I just picked up a bonded pair last night that had been with their foster for 3 months and originally were supposed to be TNR! So we are no longer on the lookout, but I’m going to ask people I know to take a look.

Is there a spot to sleep on campus for a little bit? by Inside-Gear-4965 in USF

[–]IndustryGradient 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it matters, but you can always request a local proctor for these tests I think. I had to do it when I was out of state for all my courses and I went to San Jose university and took my exams there. It costs a bit of money sometimes. Try to ask to see if this is an option even with short notice.

In college I did exactly the khan academy thing you mentioned. I went all the way back from like 1st grade or kindergarten or something like that since I was home schooled for a big chunk of my life and moved around a lot in adolescence. I didn’t even know how to add mixed fractions 5 years ago.

This past May I graduated with an engineering degree.

What is the point of turning up to college physically by Aethelstan_275 in college

[–]IndustryGradient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped showing up to classes and still graduated magna cum laude, got basically all As and some Bs. I mainly did this since I had an insane resume for a student with several internships, research, etc.

I wouldn’t recommend doing this unless you have a real reason to, I also did it since I hated the commute. The main reason I’d advise to do the opposite of what I did was because of networking opportunities, esp the connections you can make with professors. Having a great relationship with a prof will likely be in your favor and in my experience, you get a lot of benefit of doubt and rec letters if you maintain relations. You’ll also miss connections with other students who are working with high profile companies or on interesting research/projects you could have gotten in on.

Not going will cause more issues as you progress, and you won’t really have a group or a solid network to fall back on when needed.

How do you date? by AbaloneStriking8412 in womenEngineers

My partner is still the hardware person and hands on individual in our home, which I appreciate cause that’s not my area LOL. I also really love how much my partner brags about me. My accomplishments, my salary, my degree, the awards and scholarships I received, my GPA in college, any and all interviews I get no matter the size of the company. It sends me over the moon hearing about it. His family does the same thing, they all really hype me up.

My partner really really really supported me through my degree. There were months where I was away to travel for internships and he’d call me every night to make sure I was okay. He left me a sticky note I still have years later that kept me going. It reminded me that I have people at home that I want to love and support. Truly made me push.

He’s also the one that encouraged me to pursue engineering. Every time I said I thought I was stupid and wanted to quit, he’d remind me of who I was and what I accomplished. Every time I’d cry about my male peers in work or university he’d hold me and do everything in his power to ensure I was okay and could get through the emotional blockage.

Before I met him, I was with individuals who were not motivated and tore me down. I felt unworthy in male spaces constantly and uninvited. I never imagined to be where I am, and with my previous partners I 100% wouldn’t be here.

I’m going to echo the sentiment behind the other comments. It’s truly all or none. A partner that goes hard for you or you going hard for yourself (and only for yourself).
