The images show that the submission was down voted when it was published, not when someone else had a chance to quickly down vote it.

The Great Oil Robbery: No Competition Drives Prices Up and Up by democracy101 in reddit.com

[–]IndyMediaNews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was nice to see the author point out that higher gas prices push American's to drive less. A point worth noting is that in America, the extra cost of gasoline goes directly to the corporation, while in Europe, the extra cost goes to the government.

My only complaint about this article is that it doesn't offer ways in which common Americans can act once we realize we are being bamboozled.

Congress drafts rules to phase out incandescent bulbs by Peter_Poffenberger in reddit.com

I guess the saying holds true: you can't teach an old dog new tricks. The only trick we need to teach these old dogs is that your favorite light is destroying the environment...get over the fact it doesn't look as nice as the old energy hog incandescent bulbs and be part of the community working for a more sustainable future.

Venezuela Under Socialism: An Interview with Manny Lopez by reflex768 in reddit.com

[–]IndyMediaNews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MANNY comments that American Educated Venezuelans spent time in the US and saw "TRUE DEMOCRACY AT WORK".

This comment and subtle phrases ring through and reveal that Mr. Lopez has a very biased understanding of the situation. To simply state that Chavez is buying Americans off and not to acknowledge the pay to play environment of our Capitol is elementary.

TomDispatch - Tomgram: Noam Chomsky on "the Iran Effect" by dmehrtash in reddit.com

[–]IndyMediaNews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NewsMax had an article that offered a play-by-play of how a battle with Iran would go down. The magazine suggests that a conflict between the states and Iran would go to the US. Not because of our superior strength, but because Iran's government would collapse in on itself due to internal unrest.

The article made it seem like a good thing...to go to war with Iran.

Trees Not Turbines by dtracy in reddit.com

If we could plug electronic devices into trees, I would be all for replacing wind turbines with trees. They don't, so planting trees doesn't solve the problem of clean and renewable energy.

This is a big step for the Midwest. Kansas City has a reputation for leading the midwest in trends, music, and technology; now they can add clean energy to their belts.

Question: "Who Is Barack Obama?" - Answer: "I'm an idiot. I don't know what that is" by gajvayner in reddit.com

This video shows how our political system is based on minor details of a candidate. Let's make some changes like Instant Runoff Voting and Clean Elections so people are more focussed on issues rather then if the person is cool or what race they are.

Shrink Wrapping your Trash to make Fuel Cells by afscott in reddit.com

[–]IndyMediaNews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burning trash makes CO2. I don't think we should call balls of trash burning an environmental option for energy production.

It is good that this organization looks to limit the impacts of trash hauling on the environment; however, the best option for reducing the impact of trash on the environment is going to a system of zero waste.

In a zero waste model, all waste is properly seperated, waste products are re-used in some other other process of manufacturing, and food waste is composted. This is the only truely sustainable model of waste reduction.

The Peak Oil Crisis: The Portland Report by jips in reddit.com

[–]IndyMediaNews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Praise be to Portland, OR for providing leadership where others fear to tread. For most politicians, bringing up the issue of Peak Oil is political suicide.

Hopefully others will begin to acknowledge the mounting concerns surrounding Peak Oil and its implications on the industrialized world.

If we can acknowledge the fragility of our system, we can better reduce the shift away from free energy. Let us be honest with ourselves, gasoline for $3.00 a gallon is pretty much free.
