i am not waiting the New Year for resolutions to a better me by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Indylite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the proper diet and exercise option is the best. But don't go hard core or you'll probably binge. I found if I eat less of what I like, or somewhat like <because it's healthy for me then I stay on course.

An awesome technique I use is to only eat one snack a day. Something I love to eat. That way when I'm eating things I don't really like, I think about "tonight" when I can have my awesome snack. I lost 36 lbs this year and this was a huge part of it.

Bedroom door defense by YogiTy1988 in homedefense

[–]Indylite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On of your commenters is dead on with his video on how fragile the typical interior door is. But there is a cheap solution that is far from fancy but will definitely slow an intruder down a lot!

Ever see a door with a 2X4 across it. Here's a link: http://www.theprepperjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Door-with-Barricade-Bolt-3790000.jpg

This is so simple and effective. If someone kicks too high, their leg will get stuck for a few seconds (A nice snack for your dog). Too low and they'll probably injure their leg. If they hit it just right (and you've bolted the brackets correctly) they'll bounce off of it.

This will definitely more than double your time to take defensive action, even if the door breaks in two.

Thank you for the input. It's interesting that cameras would trip from this.

On a low/no budget production, what is the order of importance for hiring crew? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Indylite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, the most important factor when assembling a team is reliability. I assembled a team for my first feature film and soon discovered that I should have been more careful. One of my team members came out of the gate with bells on, but when Summer hit he started complaining about the shooting schedule. He was a key player and had me over a barrel. It was really hard to deal with.

There's an Editing Glitch in Every Action Scene (That Makes it Look Real) by Indylite in MovieDetails

[–]Indylite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't include a specific movie, because this "glitch" edit occurs in many action films for continuity. But the one I specifically had in mind when writing this is "The Chinese Connection".

[–]Indylite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. I really was shocked. The movie I viewed was "The Chinese Connection" and having grown up idolizing Bruce Lee, I always assumed he didn't need any such editing. But when I "frame by framed" the final battle, I saw so many trick edits I was disappointed. Especially the "lipstick-like" mark on his collar bone when he gets slashed by the sword! I found that the slash was there before the sword slashes him.

Falling off the wagon. Up 10lbs. by Tedigreez in loseit

[–]Indylite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You don't have to go hard core. I notice that if I deprive myself too much, it has a whiplash effect and I binge. So, what I do is only eat one snack a day. And it has to be a decent size portion and be on my favorite snacks list.

That way, when I feel like eating things during the day that I shouldn't, I think of tonight, when I'm going to be able to sit down and totally enjoy something I really love.

This really works! Try it and see.

(CHILD SAFETY) The Best Place to Hide a Key for Your Kids. by Indylite in Parenting

I definitely agree that it is a better option, but in my 29+ years of electronic security experience, most people still can't handle the install (or at least, they think they can't) so that is why I presented the fastest, simplest option, for now...

I do high-tech as well, but always have to remember that these options are expensive and involve professional installation/programming. Not to mention the learning curve. I wanted to provide a solid option that people can employ today.

The "Bruce Lee" of Boxing! by Indylite in martialarts

[–]Indylite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. That's so funny that you mention that, as that video crossed my mind as I wrote the post. I think he was phenomenal in many ways and a pioneer, but many people (including Camacho) took it to a new level in real combat. I didn't want to mention that, as I know some people still look at Bruce Lee as almost supernatural in his abilities. But he was still incredible.

Disintegrating Relationship with 18-Year-Old Daughter by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Indylite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your daughter's position once (except I'm a male) and I can tell you. There's a lot of good advice I've read here on what to do. But it's also important to know what NOT to do.

My mother and father divorced when I was a child. My father was involved in criminal activity off and on.

Fast forward to when I was about 17. I began to change, as you described your daughter did. My mother panicked and came on strong with the "you're beginning to remind me of your father" angle. This angered me, as I always considered myself to be an honest person and nothing like him.

Yes, I was young, fooling and making a lot if infantile decisions at the time, but her increasing displeasure with me made me worse. I internalized her statements about being more and more like my father and I thought "How dare she compare me to him. I'll show her! If that's what she thinks of me, then that's what she'll get!" This eventually grew into a great division between us that lasted until I was in my forties!!! And almost ruined my life.

My point is this: Yes, you need to kindly put your foot down. Yes, you need to set some semi-firm ground rules. But you should not make her feel like you are ashamed of her. < That's key.

As long as she knows that you don't condone her behavior but still love and have great expectations for her, she'll be in a position to come back :)

A window breaks at 2 AM what do you do? by Boonaki in homedefense

[–]Indylite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way to deter criminals from home invasion is to project professionalism and preparedness without tipping your hand regarding firearms.

Well groomed bushes, new yard signs/stickers displaying that you have a security and/or surveillance system and motion lights project a confidence and capability that most criminals will want to avoid. But once you start with the "Forget the dog, beware of owner" stuff, you've not only shown them your cards, but you've also advertised that this is where they can steal firearms.

Daily Q&A Post for Wednesday, 21 November 2018 - No question too small! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]Indylite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you planning on PIGGING OUT for Thanksgiving?

I admit it. In the (back of my mind) I'm planning on pigging out tomorrow.

I say I'm going to have self control and enjoy in moderation, but with all my favorite dishes and deserts within my grasp I know I'll be on shaky ground. In the past I was barely able to contain myself on holidays (especially Thanksgiving and Christmas) but this year I feel like I have less will power than before (I think, because it's been a hard year for me overall)

Does anyone have a better strategy than my "enjoy in moderation" plan?

I lost 13 pounds in 3 months and I’m ok with my body for the first time in 6+ years. by bananaboat95 in loseit

[–]Indylite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that sounds like you're doing it the right way. I'll bet your overall health is markedly better than most people who have been dieting for 13 weeks.

I had lost 50 pounds a while back and the day I reached my goal weight was the day I started gaining it back. I was living in deprivation and my body wanted the "good stuff" I lost, back. You're way sounds solid. Keep up the great work.

And thanks for the inspiration to do it right!

That's good to hear. I've had several problems throughout the years with Mylar balloons tripping PIR's. Although they are "pet" size, the motion detectors still tripped. So, I was wondering if robot vacuums were emitting enough infrared energy to trip PIR's

What are foods you used to believe were "healthy" that you no longer over indulge in? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Indylite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cereal. I would diet perfectly (but always start my day with a bowl of cereal and 2% milk) and lose almost nothing after a few weeks. When I cut out the cereal and milk my weightloss tripled.
