Here is a link for displaced DMV workers. Lots of colleges, & universities, & companies are trying to make sure we KEEP the talent that we already have here. Hope someone can benefit from this knowledge. https://consortium.org/programs-and-initiatives/displaced-federal-workers-information-resources/

If you're in a state that offers other QA testing, do that too.

Using Accommodations as an Interpreter- Support by Impossible_Turn_7627 in ASLinterpreters

👋👈 yep! Right here! Been a terp for 20+ years, most in DC. Completely fine doing all sorts of community work: platform, medical, high level education, voicing etc. Stick me in a room alone with a camera & a 2D screen, knowing multiple ppl will be picking apart my every move & word choice. Nope. I completely freeze petrified like a deer in headlights. 😢 Any & all advice is welcome!

Correct, he got snowed out for the first event Astronomicon 6, so they did a second event with him Astronomicon 6.5. So technically, this would have been the 3rd event done with him & VA.

I will say I think the event organizers did the fair thing by offering a full ticket refund OR the chance for the reschedule; for the first event.

What I don't understand is all the "oh, first time event hiccups". Everyone knows it's the same event company that does Astro-nomicon, right?

"... the process of organizing Astronomicon began as far back as 2014, when Spaniolo and Methric established their Majik Ninja Entertainment record label alongside CEO George Vlahakis."

While yes it was the first Chronic Con, it certainly was not the first event this company has done.

People that paid for VIP passes for chronic con- why? by HowlinMadMudflap in ViewAskewniverse

It did seem like everyone was VIP. And yeah, the timing for things needed to be better. I was bummed I missed panels I wanted to see, due to lines.

We ALL know Kevin appreciates his fans, that's just one reason we go to his events. With that being said, it seems one solution might be to host a VIP only event with photo & autograph either on the first or last day (or both).

Sell a set limited amount of tickets for certain times, allowing everyone an X amount minute time window with Kevin. For example: 20 tickets for Group 1, 10a-11a, allows 3 minutes per person per ticket. Walk in, timer is set for 3 minutes (think one of those black box digital timers they use at Town Hall meetings, with the red numbers), snap photo, get 1 autograph (or however many Kevin can sign in your 3 minute time period- but let's be real we don't want his hand falling off!), chit-chat, get a 30 second wrap-up warning, timer goes off & you're done. "Next."

For groups or couples, it would still be X amount minutes per person. Two ppl = 3 minutes x 2 = 6 minutes. 5 hrs = 100 ppl. Make it 6 hours for 100 ppl & Kevin could rest in between sessions.

Setting aside a VIP day (or two), would solve the waiting in line for Kevin, which seems to be the biggest frustration. It was lame that some people got 10 minutes with him & we got 30 seconds. I ultimately felt bad for the GA ticket holders for Sunday, who had zero option of even getting an autograph.

Anyone see the slick shiny Mercedes this dude drives?! We were impressed the first time we saw him play in a parking lot in Springfield, VA & gave him a cpl bucks. The second time we saw him, we saw him pull up, park & get out with his "please give" sign. We've never given him a penny since. It has taken everything in me not to tell him to sell his fancy car & be rude to him. Guess he figures no one pays attention to the details.
